🌍 Meaningful Youth Engagement Begins with Parents🤝

Parents, guardians and young people themselves play a vital role in creating a safe and supportive environment where young people can confidently participate, express themselves, and contribute to positive change. When families are informed and involved, young people are better equipped to take part in initiatives addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and promoting safer communities.

âś… Today, Botha Bothe Youth And Adult Development (BYAD) conducted a Parental Engagement Session which involved young people in discussions at Ha- Pokane, Botha Bothe, as part of the stakeholder engagement process for the Youth focused SGBV Project under YouthPowerhub.

During the session, parents, guardians and young people were introduced to the project, engaged in meaningful discussions, and encouraged to strengthen their role in:
✔ Supporting young people’s participation
âś” Preventing SGBV within communities
âś” Building safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces for youth

đź’™ We extend our sincere appreciation to UNICEF and IOM, with generous support from the European Union (EU), for making this important initiative possible. Together, we continue to empower communities and work towards a future free from violence.

REPRESENTING BOTHA BOTHE: Pre-Budget Consultation 2026

Yesterday, Botha Bothe Youth And Adult Development(BYAD) had the honor of joining the Pre-Budget Consultation hosted by representatives from the Ministry of Finance.

We were in the room with key district leaders — the Honorable District Administrator of Butha-Buthe, councilors from each council in the district, Community Council Secretary, Town Clerk’s Office, District Secretary Office, District Business Community, and fellow youth groups/CSOs. It was a powerful gathering of voices all asking one question: how do we build a better Butha-Buthe together?

The session took us through the national budget process. We reviewed the 2025/2026 budget performance, then got insight into what’s being considered for the upcoming budget. The discussions were honest and practical. Participants were asked: “How would you like to see your district look?” and “What initiatives can we start here in Butha-Buthe to generate our own revenue?”

As Botha Bothe Youth And Adult Development, we shared insights from the ground. For development priorities, the district called for sustainable road infrastructure to connect communities, electricity especially in rural areas, solar-powered streetlights for safety, sustainable water solutions, and economic skills-building programs targeting rural youth. Many of our young people don’t have access to formal education, and we believe vocational and informal training can close that gap.

On revenue generation, we proposed ideas that can work for Butha-Buthe: construction of parks and leisure spaces with entry fees, paid parking in town centers, public places with paid toilets and showers, designated truck stops, and preservation of cultural heritage sites like Ha Mopeli — the fortress of King Moshoeshoe before Thaba Bosiu. Our history and our land can work for us.

We’re grateful for the platform and for being part of shaping the budget before it’s written.

On Thursday, 14 May 2026, representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the YouthPowerHub Program participated in a valuable training on the Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfer (HACT) held at the UN House in Maseru.

The training focused on strengthening the capacity of Implementing Partners (IPs) on key HACT procedures and principles, including risk assessment, FACE forms, cash transfer processes, accountability, reporting, and financial assurance mechanisms. The session provided important knowledge and practical guidance to improve transparency, compliance, and effective management of project resources.

🛑 Corruption has met its match in Botha Bothe.

At Moroeroe Lodge, a powerful shift took place as youth gathered under DCEO last year theme:
“Uniting Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.”

This wasn’t just another workshop. It was a wake-up call. A strategy room. A leadership moment. We unpacked the truth about corruption — its forms, its damage, its silent impact on development — and deepened our understanding of the DCEO mandate. But more importantly, we moved from conversation to commitment.

Out of that momentum, a District Youth Anti-Corruption Committee was formed to turn last year’s Anti-Corruption Day pledges into real action.

And BYAD didn’t just attend.
We rose.

âś… Elliot Sello Motloenya, our Project Officer, now serves as Vice Chairperson.
âś… Eric Lesaoana, our dedicated Volunteer, joins the Committee as one of its Directors.

💪We remain committed to building a generation that does not tolerate corruption — but challenges it, questions it, and defeats it.

Integrity is no longer a slogan.
It’s our assignment.

Yesterday was a powerful and inspiring day for Botha Bothe Youth and Adult Development (BYAD) as we had the privilege of attending two impactful youth-focused events in Maseru.

📍 National Youth Networking Pitso – Youth Power Hub
Held at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre, the National Youth Networking Pitso brought together young people from across Lesotho to engage in meaningful dialogue on advancing youth economic empowerment through access to finance for inclusive and sustainable livelihoods.
We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of conversations that connect youth to explore innovative, youth-friendly financial solutions for sustainable development.

🌙 La Nuit des Idées (Night of Ideas) 2026
Later in the day, we were honoured to attend the Night of Ideas, co-hosted by , Youth Power Hub, and Alliance Française de Maseru , under the global theme .
The event provided a vibrant space for reflection on new paths forward in addressing today’s social, economic, and environmental challenges, with rich discussions on youth entrepreneurship, cultural exchange, inclusive tourism, environmental innovation, and economic empowerment.

🙏 We extend our sincere appreciation to UNICEF Lesotho,IOM Lesotho,Eu Lesotho, Alliances Française de Maseru, and all partners for creating platforms that amplify youth voices, creativity, and leadership. BYAD remains committed to engaging in spaces that promote dialogue, empowerment, and sustainable opportunities for young people.
