Psychotherapy is Not the only way 🇱🇸:
We aren’t romanticizing anything here. Some people cannot afford private pay psychotherapy.
Other times, sitting in your therapist’s office on a weekly basis can start feeling repetitive & redundant.
Talking about it is sometimes re-triggering and re-traumatizing.
I am a Counseling Psychologist who sometimes opts for:-
🌱Being connected to nature & grounding myself.
🍀Listening to Music tends to release my feel-good hormones. I have different playlists for different days and/or challenges.
🌿Cooking helps me quiet my brain. I cannot be thinking of delayed payments & getting the right amount of gun grill at the same time. The latter takes precedence.
🍃Physical activity. It can be gym, hikes, and the other stuff. Just get that blood circulating mate.
☘️Retail therapy (be careful) with this one. An original custom made Kimono by a designer in South Africa gives me enough debt to want to wake up in the morning & work some more. It can be addictive, so qaphela!
🎋Prayer!!! Research suggests that prayer & meditation are focus tasks that reduces activity in the frontal lobe. We can connect with higher senses of being. This is another way I become less within myself. How I silence my mind.
🛌 Sleep! Sleep! Sleep! Gone are the days when sleep deprivation was a badge of honor for hardwork. Sleep has multiple benefits, including resetting your Circadian Rhythms.
🎋Social connectedness. Loneliness is a disease. Try not to fall off the face of society because this is how we can be forever lost. After all, we are social creatures!
📸After a hectic day at work, I opted for an afternoon with the Earth at Asylum Lake Preserve, MI 🇺🇸.
Thank you Tutu Huang for walking the woods & downtown alleys with me 💚.
