The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) 2026 Triennial Council Meeting has officially concluded after three productive days of dialogue, collaboration, governance, and strategic decision-making aimed at advancing the midwifery profession globally.

We are proud that the **Independent Midwives Association of Lesotho (IMAL)** was represented at this important global forum, contributing to discussions on the future of midwifery, strengthening Member Associations, reviewing key policy and position statements, electing a new ICM Board, and shaping the strategic direction of the profession for the coming years.

As IMAL, we remain committed to bringing global midwifery priorities, innovations, and advocacy efforts back home to strengthen maternal and newborn health services in Lesotho.

We extend our congratulations to the newly elected ICM Board and thank the outgoing Board for their dedicated service and leadership throughout the 2023โ€“2026 triennium.

The conclusion of the Council Meeting marks the beginning of an exciting week as we now proceed to the 34th ICM Triennial Congress, where IMAL will continue to represent Lesotho and contribute to global conversations on midwifery, education, leadership, research, and quality maternal healthcare.

Together, we are advancing midwifery, strengthening associations, and improving the health of women, newborns, and families.

This , we are highlighting the Professional Framework for Midwifery which brings together everything needed to build, strengthen and sustain the profession โ€” from education and regulation to leadership, research, and enabling environments. Each element is interconnected, meaning progress in one strengthens them all, and gaps in one can hold the whole system back.

This resource is a practical tool for midwives, associations and policymakers working to advance the profession and improve the quality and equity of care.
