Most of what we're bringing to will look familiar. One device won't.

At booth 📍134246, we're unveiling a scanner built for accuracy-critical applications, shown alongside Artec Leo, Artec Spider II, Artec Point, Artec Micro II, Artec Ray II, and Artec Jet.

✴︎ Bring your own part. Watch it digitized in a live demo.
✴︎ Talk through your project with our team, from quality inspection to reverse engineering.
✴︎ See the new device at its first public showing.

Filming is where photogrammetry in Artec Studio begins, so here it is in six steps. Choose the object, light it evenly, make space on all sides, circle it slowly and keep it in focus. Save this before your next capture.

RTK is a satellite positioning technology that improves accuracy when 3D mapping large environments. Combining GNSS signals with corrections broadcast from a ground-based reference station, RTK-equipped scanners produce georeferenced point clouds without requiring ground control targets.

Dodman Ltd. was brought in to install a new system in place of an outdated pea production line that was losing valuable stock to leaky machinery. Surveying the factory floor came first.

Due to scale, Artec Ray was the starting point, but raised platforms and other background noise obscured finer details from the device's view, so Artec Leo came in alongside it to digitize critical equipment with precision at pace. Accuracy came down to just 2 mm, and top-to-bottom capture took five hours, where traditional lasers and tapes would have taken weeks.

"Our new line needed to be spill-proof, otherwise our client would lose money. This could only be achieved with Artec Leo, which gave us a fully detailed view of the area," said Dodman design engineer Andy Chase.

✋ Capture mode: Handheld
🕒 Scan time: 15 minutes
💾 Dataset: 3 GB LAZ

This dataset demonstrates Artec Jet's SLAM LiDAR capturing the remnants of a historical fort in an urban area, scanned outdoors in handheld mode. The site is a partially destroyed building with irregular geometry that blurs into the surrounding cityscape, which makes it a challenging scan. Even so, Jet captured all the details, including those obscured by foliage, along with very different surfaces ranging from metal posts to brickwork.

The resulting point cloud allows for the accurate documentation of heritage structures, supporting preservation efforts, structural assessment, and integration into broader urban mapping or digital twin projects.

A full face scan with Spider II is about 15 seconds of capture and 30 seconds of processing. What it depends on:

Setup. Set the FPS to maximum and Geometry Gain to 30-60%. Seat the person in a swivel chair so you can rotate them instead of walking around.

Speed. With FPS at maximum, move fast enough to finish before the small facial muscles shift, and keep the motion smooth while you do it.

Movement. Keep the scanner moving like you’re painting a face. Spend extra passes on eyes, nostrils, lips, and ears, and change your wrist angle often to reach every contour.

Distance. Put the laptop or screen where you can glance at it mid-scan, and watch your distance as you work.

Processing. Run Global Registration using geometry. Follow with Scan Decimation at default settings to reduce the raw data carried into processing. For Fusion, use 0.1mm to 0.05mm. The higher the resolution, the more visible any scan errors become.

Try it and post your results.

The Artec team captured the roughly 1.5-meter statue in a 15-minute shoot, collecting approximately 350 images with an iPhone 15 Pro while walking around it twice. The weathered surface offered a bit of a stress test for photogrammetry. The jpeg photos went into Artec Studio, where AI Photogrammetry reconstructed a watertight model that preserved the body proportions accurately and captured the colors, scratches, and texture.

That print-ready model went to Mimaki Japan where it printed in just over 14 hours on the Mimaki 3DUJ-553, built from a pure white hardened core wrapped in a roughly 1mm CMYKW shell.

Tucci Hot Rods runs with three people, and calls Artec Leo its fourth person.

In our recent webinar, Dominick Tucci and Digitize Designs' Kyle Burdine cover reshaping a 1941 Willys nose with a 3D printed mold and fiberglass layup, hiding the hardware on a Porsche GT3 / GT2 RS style body, and scanning on site to download the data later. As the shop puts it: "It's a big cost for a small business, but man, is it worth it."
