A year ago I almost didn’t post this.
It was shaky. Noisy. Filmed on my sister’s phone at our anniversary party. I watched it back and felt that flush of - this is too messy, too raw, and who cares anyway?
I posted it anyway.
It’s been watched over 800,000 times since. The most-watched thing I’ve ever made was the one I was most uncertain to show you.
Here’s what was in it, and what I still believe a year on.
When my husband and I go more challenging times in our relationship - and like everyone, we have - my mind starts handing me stories. Maybe we’re not compatible. Maybe it would be easier on my own.
But it’s never him I’ve wanted to get away from (except maybe just to calm down). It’s the feeling. The frustration. The helplessness. The shame of how I’m behaving.
When I come back to my essence - the loving part of me, underneath all the noise - I choose him. Every time.
The work I do with high performers is the same work. Not how to stop feeling the surge. How to stay in it long enough to have the ability to respond, and not just react.
Happy anniversary to the one I’d want beside me even on our worst day.
