How do we protect that sense of worth in our children - and what happens when it has already been eroded? Jeanine Balzan Engerer, a lecturer and counsellor who has worked with children, adolescents and families for more than 20 years, helps us understand the foundations of self-worth.

Last year I had the pleasure to have Ġorġ Mallia in the audience whilst giving a presentation.

I had asked everyone to think about when they were 16 years old and write the first word that comes up.
This is what he wrote and obviously added a drawing 🥹

I’ve just wrapped up presenting a small part of my PhD research at the Autoethnography Conference in Bristol, and I’m struggling to find the right words to describe how incredibly unique and lovely the experience was.

As researchers, we spend so much time in our own heads (and behind our laptops!). Getting to step out and present autoethnographic work was a distinct experience. It required a level of vulnerability that I don’t always find in traditional academic spaces.

But Bristol provided the most welcoming space. The warmth of this community, the depth of the presentations, and the generous feedback I received made this a unique moment in my PhD journey.

A huge thank you to the organisers, the fellow presenters who shared their beautiful stories, and everyone who came to my session especially my supervisor Dr. Dione Mifsud.
