Dear Patients,

I have recently been receiving many messages asking which blood tests should be done before your follow-up appointment.

As much as I would love to advise each patient individually, it is unfortunately not possible for me to review every medical record beforehand, as this is very time-consuming.

To help, I will include below a list of routine blood tests that will be appropriate for most follow-up consultations. These tests provide a good general overview of your health and will often allow us to make the most of your consultation.

Please note that some patients may require additional or different investigations depending on their medical condition, medications, or the reason for review. If I feel that further tests are needed, I will arrange these during or after your consultation.

Thank you for your understanding and continued trust.

Routine blood tests (for most follow-up reviews):
• Full Blood Count (FBC)
• Kidney Function (Urea, Creatinine & Electrolytes)
• Liver Function Tests (LFTs)
• HbA1c (for patients with diabetes)
• Fasting Blood Glucose (if requested)
• Lipid Profile (Cholesterol)
• Thyroid Function Tests (TSH ± Free T4, where appropriate)
• Urine Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio (ACR) – for patients with diabetes or kidney disease

If you are unsure whether these apply to you, or if your review is for a specific condition, please feel free to ask during your appointment.
