Preparing children for a healthy & successful school return
A successful return to school begins with healthy foundations at home:
• SLEEP
Re-establish consistent sleep and wake times. Adequate sleep supports concentration, learning, mood and healthy development.
• FOCUS
Gradually return to structured activities such as reading, drawing or puzzles. Keep activities age-appropriate and include regular movement breaks.
• NUTRITION
Offer a varied, balanced diet including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein and healthy fats. Encourage regular water intake.
• ROUTINE
Create predictable times for waking, meals, school preparation, homework, play, screen use and bedtime. Consistency helps children adjust more easily.
• EMOTIONAL PREPARATION
Returning to school can bring excitement or anxiety. Encourage your child to talk about their feelings, listen without judgement, and offer calm reassurance.
Healthy routines are built gradually. Small, consistent changes can support your child’s wellbeing throughout the school term.
If you notice persistent sleep difficulties, ongoing fatigue, significant appetite changes, anxiety or concentration problems, seek appropriate professional guidance.
