Recovery doesn't stop after surgery.

In the picture, Rashid is working with our physiotherapy team to regain movement in his left elbow after surgery. Using rings and cones, he is encouraged to move his arm through fun, functional activities instead of having the therapist move it for him. These exercises help reduce stiffness and improve movement as he continues his recovery.

Jessy injured her leg after tripping over a tree stump while running home from school. Without access to proper medical care, the wound became infected, and the infection spread to the bone. She lived with constant pain, developed bowed legs, and eventually had to leave school because she could no longer walk properly.

Jessy was identified during a mobile clinic conducted by Beit-CURE Children's Hospital of Malawi in her area. She was admitted for surgery and received the treatment and rehabilitation she needed to recover.

Today, Jessy walks without pain and has returned to school. She also sings in the youth choir at her church. Her mother says people who once believed Jessy would never recover are now amazed to see her walking again.

Thank you for helping make Jessy's recovery possible. Your support gave her the chance to walk again and return to the life every child deserves.

Your support truly changes lives. Help more children like Jessy walk pain-free. Please consider donating today: https://malawi.cure.org/donate/

CONDITIONS WE TREAT: OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA (BRITTLE BONE DISEASE)

Osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, is a lifelong genetic condition that affects the body's production of collagen, the protein that gives bones their strength. Without enough collagen, bones become weak and can break easily, even after a minor bump or fall.

Children with this condition often experience frequent fractures, delayed physical development, bowed legs, curved spines, and muscle weakness. Although there is no cure, early and ongoing treatment can help improve mobility and quality of life.

At Beit-CURE Children's Hospital of Malawi, we provide specialised care for children with osteogenesis imperfecta. Treatment may include medication to strengthen bones, physical therapy to help children reach their developmental milestones, and mobility aids to support standing and walking. Our goal is to help every child become as independent and active as possible.

If you have a child aged 0–18 years, or know someone in this age group with this condition, please share this message and contact us on 0883 186 162 or 0883 186 147 to book an appointment.

256 children are waiting for surgery.

Without treatment, they will continue living with disabilities that can be corrected.

Last year, support from our partners and donors helped Beit-CURE Children's Hospital of Malawi perform 2,766 surgeries. Children with clubfoot took their first steps. Children with bowed legs and knock knees walked without pain. Children with burn contractures regained the use of their hands and arms. Children born with cleft lips smiled with confidence.

Today, 256 children are waiting for the same care.

On 11 July 2026, we welcomed a group of Form 6 students from Leeds School of Grammar in England to Beit CURE International Hospital, Malawi

The students, many of whom are interested in pursuing careers in medicine, toured the hospital to learn about the specialised care provided to children with treatable disabilities and gain a better understanding of paediatric orthopaedic and plastic surgery.

During their visit, the group donated crutches, braces, and splints to support children receiving treatment at the hospital.

A total of 265 children have been booked for surgery at Beit CURE Children's Hospital of Malawi (CURE Malawi) following a three-day mobile clinic conducted across 21 health centres in Lilongwe District from 14–16 July 2026.

Our team in collaboration with Lilongwe District Health Officials screened 1,237 children with orthopaedic and plastic surgery conditions during the outreach. Eligible patients will receive transport support to Blantyre, with the first group expected to travel from 1 August 2026.

The mobile clinics are part of CURE Malawi's nationwide patient mobilisation programme, launched in June 2021 to identify children with treatable disabilities and connect them to free surgical care. By June 2025, the programme had reached all 28 districts of Malawi.

Since July 2025, the latest round of outreach has been conducted in Thyolo, Blantyre, Mangochi, Balaka, Zomba, Machinga, and, most recently, Lilongwe.
