A smile takes a team.

This , the CURE Malawi team is celebrating the children who come to us for cleft care.

From the theatre to the clinic, every member of our team plays a part in helping children born with cleft conditions get the care they need.

Lilongwe Mini Clinic

Do you know a child (0–18 years) living with a treatable disability such as clubfoot, bowed legs, knock knees, cleft lip, or complications from burns or fractures?

Our medical team will be at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe to screen and enroll eligible children for surgery.

Recovery continues beyond the operating room.

After surgery to release a post-traumatic ankle contracture, Yamikani continues his treatment with CURE Malawi Physiotherapist Malemeza Tadala Mphamba.

Yamikani has faced his treatment with a hopeful and smiling face. Please keep him in your prayers as he continues his journey to recovery.

These checks help our team understand how a patient is doing and make sure they are ready for surgery.

We appreciate the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) for choosing CURE Malawi as its corporate social responsibility cause for 2026 and for supporting us with MWK 20 million. The funds will go toward the medical care of children on our waiting list from Mangochi District.

This support will help cover transportation, corrective surgeries, and rehabilitative care.

We are grateful to ICAM for investing in the care of children from Mangochi and helping them access the treatment they need.

As part of our contribution to the Malawi Government’s Health Sector Strategic Plan III (2023–2030), Pillar 4: Human Resources for Health, Beit-CURE Children’s Hospital of Malawi hosts orthopaedic residents for paediatric orthopaedic fellowship training. This helps train specialised orthopaedic professionals and strengthen Malawi’s health workforce.

In the first half of 2026, we hosted two fellows from the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA): Dr. Picha Msowoya, based at the Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery (LION), and Dr. Damiano Chaula, based at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

On 14 September, Beit-CURE Children’s Hospital of Malawi hosted a seven-member delegation from the Medical Benevolence Foundation (MBF) for a hospital tour and discussions on potential areas of support.

The team was led by Dr. Burton Lee, President and CEO of MBF.

The visit provided an opportunity to share our work and discuss how MBF could support the hospital’s efforts to provide surgical care to children in Malawi.

Beit-CURE Children’s Hospital of Malawi has booked 97 children for surgery following mobile clinics in Neno and Mwanza districts on 10 and 11 September 2026.

Over the two days, the team visited 10 health facilities and assessed 387 children with orthopaedic and plastic conditions.

The children booked for surgery will be transported to Blantyre starting from 19 September for treatment, with transport provided by the hospital.
