The session focused on raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and encouraging refugees with disabilities to seek support and care for their emotional well-being.

AWARENESS MEETING ON INCLUSIVE SOCIAL PROTECTION FOR REFUGEES WITH
DISABILITIES AT DZALEKA REFUGEE CAMP.
Yesterday, 9 September 2026, we conducted a successful awareness meeting at Dzaleka
Community Centre Hall focusing on Inclusive Social Protection for Refugees with
Disabilities.
The meeting brought together 60 persons, local stakeholders, community leaders, women
and girls with disabilities, and some persons with disabilities from host community
surrounding the camp.
We came together to talk about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and how we
can work together to make sure everyone has access to an inclusive social protection
services.
The discussions also focused on accessibility, non-discrimination, referrals, collaboration,
and creating more awareness within our communities.
It was a great opportunity to share experiences, listen to different voices, and learn from
one another. We believe that when communities work together, we can create a place
where everyone is respected, included, and protected.
The UPD organization thanks the Disabled Women in Africa for its support.

Last week, starting on the 25th, Umoja People with Disabilities (UPD) had the privilege of hosting representatives from DAPP, WAG, and leaders from the District Council.

The visit provided an opportunity for DAPP and WAG to learn more about the work being carried out by UPD, assess the impact of its activities, and identify areas where support can be provided to further strengthen the organization.

This visit follows a series of capacity-building trainings organized by DAPP and
WAG, in which UPD actively participated. It also reflects the commitment of both organizations to maintaining a strong partnership and fostering continued collaboration with Umoja People with Disabilities.

We sincerely appreciate the visit, the valuable discussions, and the shared commitment to empowering persons with disabilities and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

For the past two days, we successfully conducted engagement sessions with sports coaches, team managers, young players, and other key stakeholders involved in the project.

The camp management was also represented, ensuring that all voices were heard and that participation was inclusive. Teams actively joined the discussions from their respective places of residence, demonstrating their commitment to the project's goals and future success.

These sessions provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas, strengthen collaboration, and build a common vision for empowering young athletes and enhancing sports development within our communities.

We appreciate the dedication and contributions of everyone who participated and look forward to the positive impact that will result from these collective efforts.
