HOLY SPIRIT EMPHASIS WEEK
THEME: CELEBRATION OF PENTECOST BY PASTOR ENERST KACHETO BANDA
Today, we completed the Holy Spirit Emphasis Week at Partners in Hope, a time of fellowship and worship among staff. We were reminded that God has given us the gracious gift of the Holy Spirit to empower us for life and service.
THE MEANING OF PENTECOST – this is one of the festivals of the nation of Israel from the Old Testament. They celebrated the giving of the Law by God to Moses and the feast was held fifty days after Passover. The church in the New Testament celebrates Pentecost as the day that came 50 days after the death of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit came upon the believers on this day (this marks the birthday of the church). In Acts 1:8 it indicates that Jesus Christ commanded the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes upon them to give the power to be the witnesses of Christ who are empowered to take the Gospel to the whole world. We were reminded that we have been given the Holy Spirit to be empowered for service at Partners in Hope, and to be agents of change in our various communities.
THE RESULTS OF RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT – JOHN 14:16-19 shows that the Lord Jesus Christ is promising that believers will not be alone, but He will ask the Father to send another Helper (the Holy Spirit), to dwell in us, and to be with us forever. We were encouraged that we must develop our intimacy and communion with the Holy Spirit so that His GIFTS (1 Corinthians 12:7-12), and His Fruit (Galatians 5:21-22) will operate and manifest through us. If we are guided by the Holy Spirit we will have favor, success, revitalization, healing, and restoration through the challenges of life and work.
As we close the Holy Spirit Emphasis Week we praise God for His wonderful mercies to minister to us through His servant, and uplifting us towards a life that will honor and glorify God.
