On this day 15years, and another lifetime, ago I completed treatment. Here’s a shortened long reflection…
I arrived still high, just going through the motions after failing to complete the weekend detox to prepare my 28 day stay. After completion my unhealthy relationship with drugs, alcohol…fill in the blank, had settled into a space of surrender and willingness to do whatever it took to create a purposeful life worth living.
I went on to a halfway house where I stayed 3months in the middle of a brutally cold Minnesota winter. Taking the 6am bus to start my 7am breakfast serving shift 5 days a week. There were other girls that would come and go, most with track marks in various places on their body and forced by the courts to be there. They always seemed to dislike me….and my Tae Bo video workouts (lol) especially when it encroached on their talk show time. I didn’t feel necessarily safe there but I didn’t allow myself to get discouraged. I became more resilient. I didn’t want to become them because I saw that they were just a few more bad mistakes ahead of me. I have nothing but gratitude for my time there.
Kava and an abundant amount of other blessings came into my life after this and the rest is history. I’m not perfect by any means but I can say that I now have a pritty healthy balance with what I put in my body and how I approach life has shifted drastically.
I share this because if you are struggling you should know that there is a contrast experience waiting for you on the other side. With a little willingness and determination your whole world can shift. Mine certainly has ;)
Thank you for witnessing this ridiculously long share and to those of you that inspire me everyday to become a better version of myself 🙏🏻
