Gene traveled from Louisiana after 15 years of wearing an upper denture.

He had done his research, we met through a video consultation, reviewed his options, and talked honestly about the complexity of his case.

His upper jaw had severe bone loss, and on the panoramic X-ray he also had impacted canines in the maxilla — making implant placement even more challenging. Several providers, including myself at first glance, believed this case would most likely require zygomatic implants.

But surgery is not about forcing the plan.
It is about respecting the anatomy in front of you.

During the procedure, we were able to avoid zygomatic implants by using a palatal approach, engaging the available bone, and reaching enough torque for immediate loading.

Zygomatic implants are an incredible tool — but when we can avoid them safely, we save them for a rainy day.

Gene left with fixed temporary teeth, and we will see him again in 3–4 months for his final zirconia prosthesis with a titanium bar.

From Florida to VORA Dentistry ✈️🦷

This patient came to us with two main concerns: tooth pain and esthetics.

Clinically, she had deep cavities, some extending underneath the gum line. Her enamel was breaking down, which allowed cavities to progress faster into the dentin and closer to the nerve.

Her treatment required a comprehensive and personalized approach, including root canals, indirect pulp capping, crown lengthening gum surgery, removal of decay, and temporary PMMA restorations.

These PMMA teeth are not the final result. They are part of the healing and planning phase. We use them so the gums can heal properly, while also allowing the patient to “test drive” the shape, length, bite, and esthetics of her new smile before moving into the final restorations.
