Food and medicine are of the same source. What you choose each day is a message the body receives. Consistency is what makes it powerful and healing over time.

What makes Se’Wá different from other acupuncture practices?

Se’Wá is an integrative practice, where we look at your body and it’s imbalances according to the millenary scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine, while incorporating Western and science based knowledge of the pathophysiology of your symptoms.

I use acupuncture, nutrition, lifestyle and supplement advice to bring your body back to balance while lending an ear and an open heart to understand the full range of feelings and experiences that comprise your personal and life journey.

I weave all of the above with a keen sense of intuition to let the healing process take place in a way that is unique to you.

It is important to consume a nutrient-packed breakfast that has at least 30 grams of protein because after not eating for 8 to 10 hours, your body is in a breakdown mode (catabolic state). Science shows that it takes 30 grams of protein to refuel the body at breakfast. This switches the body back to an anabolic state (building mode).

Breakfast is unique because it breaks a time of fasting, but simply eating breakfast is only half the battle. The true victory comes when you eat a high-quality breakfast packed full of protein and nutrients

A new stidy shows that high-protein compared with a normal-protein breakfast leads to daily improvements in appetite, satiety, food motivation and reward, and evening snacking

eating a high-protein breakfast helps prevent body fat gain, increase weight loss, reduce cravings and hunger, blance hormones and even decrease the temptation to snack at night. According to these studies, people reap the most benefits when breakfast includes about 30 grams of protein.

Consuming 30 grams of protein first thing in the morning prevents a mid-morning blood sugar crash and keeps your metabolism humming all day. It also helps build lean muscle mass

We know Blood sugar regulation is affected by the type of foods you eat but research shows the order in which you eat them has a big impact on glucose spikes in your blood.

Insulin is secreted when your blood sugar changes and is the driving hormone of glucose into your cells. Your cells need the right amount to function but too much or too little insulin greatly affects your metabolism.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you wake up in the morning, you have fasted for close to 12 hours (depending on when you ate your last meal) and your body’s glycogen stores have been depleated. If you don’t eat breakfast or if you eat a sugary or high carb meal, you put yourself on a rollercoaster of blood sugar spikes and drops the entire day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Eating carbs on their own can cause a rapid spikes in Blood Sugar. Overtime, this increases systemic inflammation, dysrrgulates cortisol and your stress response, and plays a key role in the development of disease.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not skipping meals and having balanced snacks with adequate protein with our carbohydrates and some healthy fat, will help to manually regulate blood glucose to avoid highs and lows in between meals.

The suggestion for macronutrient order and amount in a meal is to eat:

🥬50% of a veggie starter first
🥩25% protein second
🍠25 %complex carb last

Regulating your blood sugar throughout the day will give you sustained steady energy all day long, fix your metabolism and allow for natural weight loss, will help with stress modulation, increase concentration and improve mood.

Life is so beautiful, amongst the chaos of its intricate complexity, there is so much love intertwined.

Sometimes, I get a glimpse of the big picture, the immensity of it all, the micro and macro, and I feel so humbled by all that exists yet we do not always understand.

In spite of my very human moments of trying to make things make sense, feeling the spectrum of emotions, and feeling lost at times, I revel in the unknown and trust it’s magnificence ✨
