They were accused of crimes no one could prove. They confessed to acts that may never have happened. And centuries after their ex*****ons, some say the dead never left.

Between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, Europe became consumed by one of history’s most disturbing waves of persecution. Ordinary people were accused of making pacts with the Devil, attending witches’ Sabbaths, commanding familiar spirits, casting deadly curses, causing storms, possessing their neighbors—and conspiring with an invisible enemy supposedly hiding within Christian society.

But who were these people before someone called them witches?

In The European Witch Hunts — Case File 006, Dr. Druanna Johnston reopens the historical crime scene.

Moving through Germany, Scotland, England, France, Switzerland, Scandinavia, and other centers of persecution, this investigation follows the machinery that could transform rumor into evidence, suspicion into confession, and one accusation into dozens of arrests.

Inside the case file, Johnston examines the Malleus Maleficarum, torture and coerced confessions, the Devil’s mark, familiars, curses, demonic possession, the witches’ Sabbath, the trials of Pendle and North Berwick, Matthew Hopkins, the great German persecutions, and the occult beliefs that shaped early-modern Europe.

But the investigation does not end when the ex*****ons stop.

Centuries later, prisons, castles, ex*****on sites, and landscapes associated with the witch trials have accumulated stories of apparitions, unexplained footsteps, voices, shadow figures, and the restless dead. Johnston follows those claims into the paranormal record, separating documented history from folklore, later legend, psychological explanation, and phenomena that remain difficult to classify.

And beneath it all lies an unsettling question:

Did Europe discover a vast conspiracy of witches—or did the machinery of the witch hunt create the evidence it was searching for?

Blending cinematic narrative nonfiction, historical true crime, occult history, psychology, and paranormal investigation, The European Witch Hunts challenges some of the most persistent myths surrounding the persecutions while returning attention to the human beings buried beneath the accusations.

Because whether their ghosts remain or not, one thing is certain:

These people lived.
They suffered.
Many died.
And the greatest injustice would be to allow the accusation to outlive the accused.

It comes with algorithms.

We are entering an era where artificial intelligence is changing how books are written, art is created, businesses are built, and information is shared. But with every technological revolution comes something familiar: fear, suspicion, accusation, and the search for someone to blame.

In this video, I examine what I call the AI Witch Hunt—and how algorithms have become invisible gatekeepers deciding what gets recommended, what disappears, what reaches an audience, and what gets buried.

As an author who studies the darker patterns of history, I find the parallels fascinating. During historical witch hunts, accusations could spread faster than evidence. Fear became contagious. Institutions attempted to define what was acceptable, dangerous, or forbidden.

Today, the mechanisms are different—but some of the human behavior is remarkably familiar.

Are we witnessing legitimate concerns about AI and authenticity? Absolutely. But when does accountability become hysteria? When does skepticism become accusation? And what happens when an algorithm—not a human being—has enormous influence over whose work is seen?

The torches are gone.
The algorithms are here.
And the witch hunt may have simply changed its form.
