I have been getting back to painting lately and forgot how easily paint allows and even encourages emotions to flow. Collage and assemblage is a more "containing", cognitive and symbolic experience, whereas fluid mediums are more kinesthetic and sensory. These are some recent process pieces where I was working out some emotions. They are not necessarily meant to be "pretty" but I do find beauty in the messiness!

From the Door County Peninsula to the Yucatán Peninsula! In my last post I was braving a blizzard and for the past week it’s been an average of 103 degrees. What a difference at few months can make! This one is reflective of the tropical flowers and pastel colors of tropical Merida. It’s been nice to be back in “The White City” before heading to spend a few months in San Miguel.

Up on my favorite peninsula for the week braving the cold! It's starting to snow and there's not much to do but make a fire and create some art using dried Door County wildflowers. ✨

I am really excited to announce our first Disastershock Arts & Recovery Virtual Community Workshop, "Therapeutic Poetry for Mental Health & Wellbeing"! This workshop will take participants on a journey of healing and self-expression through poetry and help us find comfort, connection, and creativity in community.

We will:
● Learn about the emotional and somatic benefits of Poetry Therapy as an expressive arts modality
● Experiment with response art by responding to poetry using words, images, sound and/or movement
● Explore poetic theme and structure by engaging in both a collaborative & individual poetry-creation process
● Hear from a poet about the process of writing & sharing a poem
● Witness & share in small groups (according to your comfort level!)

✨ We welcome everyone 12+ to join us in discovering the transformative power of the expressive arts—no writing experience needed! We are trying to reach as many people as possible so please share with your communities. Now is the time to come together. 💙

Hello friends! I have been sitting on this post for a while now, as it didn't feel like the right time to share it. However, holding back feels strange too. Creating is what keeps me sane and hopeful during times when it feels hard to see the light and I know it does the same for so many others.

SO.....I am happy to share my Roots & Wings nature assemblage calendar for 2025. I created this one while living in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico's central highlands. "Roots & Wings" speaks to the pull I have to root down in one place for a period of time and the simultaneous desire to travel and explore. For more information and to order, please click on the link below. As always, thanks to each of you for supporting my art over the years and I'm wishing you all a safe, happy and healthy holiday season!

I visited a gallery here in San Miguel de Allende the other day and fell in love with this peaceful "sleeping woman". Then, as I was creating a new assemblage using collage images from a local tourism magazine, there she was! "Journey" felt right because I imagine she is off soaring through the astral plane discovering new possibilities and exploring different timelines. Wherever she is, she looks quite peaceful. I can't decide on a background for her--which one do you feel works best? ⭐️

I am calling in a calmer and more peaceful 2025 by creating assemblages for next year’s calendar that are less busy and much simpler. Allowing blank space to emerge when every nook and cranny isn't filled feels good to my brain and nervous system. The colors, complexity, and fullness of the 2024 assemblages certainly mirror the year we're having, but I'm ready for something a bit more grounded. Here's to being “rooted” in ourselves as we move forward.❤️
