One of the greatest teachings in Yoga is to focus on responding versus reacting. They both can be disguised as one another from time to time - but when we can really calm, our hearts steady our minds and respond from that place of stillness - we are in our practice.

I always keep my phone in “focus” mode when I’m teaching. – and pretty much most of the day because I’m so easily distracted – but on Tuesday, a familiar number managed to break through. It was quick call from my son‘s elementary school. He let me know that he was alive but not feeling “great”. Once I recognized the phone calls lack of urgency - I was able to buy myself a little time – 30 minutes to be precise and then pick up the pieces.

My friend at the front desk was able to capture it on Video that day which really cracked me up. It served as a reminder - are we able to take that pause to assess before going into our minds normal pattern of reactivity. Expecting the worst. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Also, that everything doesn’t need our immediate attention – whether it’s a text, a conversation, or a child stuck at the school infirmary for an extra few minutes.

Just to be crystal clear – i ain’t a saint 😇 but I’m doing the best I can to keep practicing thing called Yoga. everything in life is a practice not a perfect .

Still not quite sure how things would’ve gone down if it had been a more urgent situation, but I’m glad that I was able to return to my clear headspace and be with my class even after getting that wild phone call! 📞

I am finally at the end of a long several days of being 🤧 I have to stay a safe distance to keep them well. I have laundry that has piled up. I swore off television 📺 during the school week after summer...

I fold 🧺 and watch Hercules the Disney movie flicker on their faces after an established bedtime. I haven’t packed any lunches. My fashion and hairstyles, and BO have become questionable…

But It’s the best I’ve felt in days. Maybe because I’m breaking my dumb mom rules. Maybe it’s because my illness forced me to slow down. Maybe it’s because I realize I will never get this precious moment back. Middle finger to the rules. Middle finger to Covid. Warm hug 🤗 to where it brought me.

Finally in the clear. See you Thursday Metta Yoga Studios
9:30 am. I will wear a mask 😷 for you too.
