In my previous role at St John’s hospital I was one of the TARGET -CTCA investigators. So proud of .lee_ and Edinburgh colleagues for this well designed and highly clinically relevant clinical trial. For patients presenting to the emergency department and ACS has been ruled out, those with intermediate risk who underwent CT coronary angiogram did not experience better outcomes compared to standard care .
So much to unpack :
The standard care arm contained 29.7% individuals on anti platelets , and 43.3% on statin at baseline. 14.9% already had a per cutaneous coronary intervention. In short, a pretty high bar to show improvement in hard outcomes .
The other interesting observation was the signal toward improvement in non cardiovascular deaths in the intervention arms.
So many gems from further analyses to come , I am sure! For now , we still need to be very selective in choosing those we offer CTCA to
