🚨 Vaccine Safety Reminder: Right Vaccine, Right Age
A recent encounter in my clinic involved a 7-month-old baby who received PNEUMOVAX® 23 (PPSV23) instead of the recommended pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV).
Why does it matter?
❌PPSV23 (e.g. PNEUMOVAX® 23) is not recommended for children under 2 years old.
- Infants have an immature immune response to polysaccharide antigens, so PNEUMOVAX® 23 does not produce the same effective immune response and immune memory as it does in older children/adults.
✅PCV (e.g. PREVENAR / VAXNEUVANCE) is designed for infants because the polysaccharide is linked to a protein carrier (conjugate), allowing young children to develop a stronger, more effective immune response and immune memory.
Always check the child’s age, vaccine type and vaccine label before administration.

最近在诊所遇到一宗案例：一名7个月大的婴儿在其他诊所误接种了 PNEUMOVAX® 23（PPSV23，肺炎球菌多糖疫苗），而不是婴幼儿适用的肺炎球菌结合疫苗（PCV）。
为什么重要？
❌ PPSV23 (例如 PNEUMOVAX® 23）不适用于2岁以下儿童。
- 婴幼儿对多糖抗原的免疫反应尚未成熟，因此不能产生与结合疫苗相同的有效免疫反应和免疫记忆。
✅PCV (例如 PREVENAR、VAXNEUVANCE) 专为婴幼儿设计。通过将多糖与蛋白载体结合，可以帮助婴幼儿产生更强、更有效的免疫反应及免疫记忆。
虽都是肺炎球菌疫苗，但是 PPSV23 ≠ PCV，两者不能简单互换。
接种前请务必核对：儿童年龄、疫苗种类及疫苗标签。
