Insulin Resistance: It's a big deal!

Insulin resistance occurs when the body no longer responds effectively to insulin, forcing the pancreas to produce more to keep blood sugar normal.

Over time, this increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease, PCOS, weight gain, and chronic inflammation, often before blood sugar levels become abnormal.

āš ļø You can have insulin resistance even with a ā€œnormalā€ glucose or HbA1c.

Common Signs and Risk Factors

ā€¼ļøRisk Factors
• Central obesity (increased waist circumference)
• Sedentary lifestyle
• High intake of refined carbohydrates and sugar
• Family history of diabetes
• PCOS or gestational diabetes
• Hypertension or abnormal cholesterol levels

āœ…Possible Clinical Clues
• Fatigue after meals
• Sugar cravings
• Difficulty losing weight
• Acanthosis nigricans (darkened skin folds)
• Elevated triglycerides or low HDL

How to Check Your Risk: HOMA-IR
A simple fasting blood test using:
• Fasting glucose
• Fasting insulin

HOMA-IR Formulas:
🧭Using mg/dL:
HOMA-IR = (Fasting insulin µIU/mL Ɨ Fasting glucose mg/dL) Ć· 405

🧭Using mmol/L:
HOMA-IR = (Fasting insulin µIU/mL Ɨ Fasting glucose mmol/L) Ć· 22.5

šŸ”ŽInterpretation:
āž”ļø< 1.0 Optimal
āž”ļø1.0–1.9 Early insulin resistance
āž”ļøā‰„ 2.0 Significant insulin resistance

āœ… The good news:
Insulin resistance is reversible, especially when detected early with lifestyle changes and appropriate medical care.

Early detection = prevention.

I have met so many patients who are still stuck in the mentality of I'm fine until I'm not... Kidney disease is preventable and treatable if detected early!!!

Your Kidneys May Be Damaged… And You Won’t Feel It Until It’s Too Late

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is called the Silent Killer for a reason:
You can lose 70% of kidney function with ZERO symptoms.

Most people only find out when it’s almost irreversible (stage 3B - stage 4/5).

---> Early Signs Most People Ignore
Puffy eyes
Swollen ankles
Smelly urine
Foamy urine
Constant fatigue
High blood pressure

These are NOT ā€œnormal.ā€
These are your kidneys shouting for help.

I am truly honored and proud to be invited as a speaker at the International Borneo Conference on Addiction and Mental Health (IBCAMH), the very first Addiction and Mental Health Conference in Borneo.

Organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, this two-day international conference in Kota Kinabalu brings together distinguished experts and professionals to share knowledge, updates, and insights in the field of addiction and mental health.

The theme for this year is:
ā€œUnresolved Addiction and Mental Health Challenges: A Multidisciplinary Framework Integrating Policy, Evidence-Based Practices, and Clinical Implementation.ā€

It is an incredible opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from fellow experts, and contribute towards building more effective and compassionate approaches to mental health and addiction.

Grateful to be part of this meaningful journey and looking forward to the conversations and collaborations ahead.

Just returned from an inspiring conference organised by AIMM (Association of Integrative Medicine Malaysia).

International Integrative Medicine Conference 2025, BioRegenerative Medicine & BioHacking
The Inaugural Integrative Biohacking Congress
12, 13 & 14th July 2025
Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

and I’m still buzzing with energy and insight! A very special thanks to the team from Eternal Wellness & Clinic. It is a great honor to be working alongside experienced and dedicated doctors in the team.

It was an honour to network with like-minded doctors and healthcare professionals, all committed to transforming the future of healthcare through an integrative, evidence-based approach.

Integrative medicine is truly the future of medicine, where East meets West, where modern science complements traditional wisdom, and where every patient is seen as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.

We explored:
šŸ”¬ Advanced therapies in preventive and regenerative medicine
šŸ“š The importance of evidence-based practice
🧬 A shift toward personalised, precision, and targeted care

This is the path forward thoughtful, compassionate, and rooted in both science and holistic healing.

Feeling incredibly grateful to be part of this movement.
