Is it an Epicanthal Fold or True Strabismus?
Many young children appear to have crossed eyes because of prominent epicanthal folds (skin folds at the inner corners of the eyes). This is called pseudo-strabismus—the eyes are actually aligned normally.
🔹 Epicanthal Fold (Pseudo-strabismus)
✅ Eyes are straight and aligned
✅ Light reflection appears centered in both eyes
✅ Common in infants and young children
✅ Usually improves as facial features develop
🔹 True Strabismus
⚠️ One eye is genuinely misaligned (crossed, outward, up, or down)
⚠️ Can lead to double vision, loss of 3D depth perception, amblyopia (lazy eye)
⚠️ Requires assessment by an eye care professional
💡 If you're unsure whether a child's eyes are truly crossed, an eye examination can provide reassurance and early treatment if needed.
内眦赘皮 vs 斜视 👀
孩子看起来“斗鸡眼”，一定是斜视吗？
许多婴幼儿因鼻梁较宽及明显的内眦赘皮（Epicanthal Fold），看起来像是“斗鸡眼”，但实际上双眼是正常对齐的。这种情况称为假性斜视（Pseudo-strabismus）。
🔹 内眦赘皮（假性斜视）
✅ 双眼位置正常对齐
✅ 瞳孔上的光反射点对称且居中
✅ 常见于婴幼儿及幼童
✅ 随着面部发育及鼻梁变高，外观通常会改善
✅ 一般不影响视力
🔹 真正的斜视（Strabismus）
⚠️ 一只眼睛出现实际偏斜（向内、向外、向上或向下）
⚠️ 光反射点位置不对称
⚠️ 可能影响双眼视觉发育
⚠️ 若未及时治疗，可能导致弱视(懒惰眼), 复视(重影), 丧失立体视觉
⚠️ 需要由眼科医生进一步检查与治疗
