“I want to start a family… but intimacy hurts. Is something wrong with me?”
For some women, trying for a baby isn’t just about tracking ovulation or fertile days.
Int*rcourse itself may be painful. Your body may tense up even when you want intimacy. You may try to relax, but somehow, you just can’t.
And that can leave you wondering whether it’s physical, psychological, related to a past experience, or simply something you have to live with.
One possible cause is vginismus, a condition where the muscles around the v@ginal opening tighten involuntarily, making pe*******on painful, difficult or sometimes impossible.
But painful int*rcourse can have other causes too, including pelvic floor dysfunction, endometriosis, v@ginal infections, hormonal changes and vulvodynia. This is why a proper medical assessment matters.
The encouraging part is that treatment and support are available. Depending on the cause, treatment of an underlying medical condition, s*xual counselling or psychological support when appropriate.
❤️ Wanting a baby doesn’t mean you should have to push through pain.
