Mum was a nurse who reached her pinnacle in her career as a Matron who won the Anugerah Tokoh Jururawat of the year..
Since a kid, I had entered her room as an Operating Theatre (OT) Sister (the Head of Dept is called a Sister) and peeped around the OT, mingled with the doctors and saw how she worked late into the night preparing the staff duty roster. (now I know how important is that. The OT is like the Command Centre in the hospital or the nucleus in a cell) She would be so tired at the end of the day and trying to stay awake at the desk by munching the “keropok keping” (the ‘staple food’ in Terengganu then and forever ! ). She prefers the thick ones. She would be up and awake getting ready for work, cooking before waking us kids up the next day. Not an easy job indeed.
N now I know how crazily unpredictable the OT can get…one moment things can go smoothly, the next moment all hell would break loose !
So Happy Mother’s Day too ! I will remember your love and sacrifices. Wouldn’t be here if not for that.
A reminder to self to be appreciative of the contribution, hardwork and sacrifice of this very important group of people.. They are someone’s mother, sister, daughter or even grandmother with families of their own, so they are humans too – so be nice, show them kindness, humanity and humility too
