Case of Impacted Maxillary Canine🦷
This patient was referred from other dental clinic for management of impacted upper left maxillary canine. The canine tooth was failed to erupt and trapped in the bone.
After a detailed examination and evaluation, we decided on orthodontic traction with gold chain to save her impacted maxillary canine.
With careful planning and correct mechanic, the impacted maxillary canine has been successfully bring down to the dental arch.
What is impacted maxillary canine?
An impacted maxillary canine is a permanent upper canine that fails to erupt normally and remains trapped in the bone or soft tissue.
Common features:
* More common in females
* Usually palatal
* Retained primary canine
* May cause root resorption of adjacent teeth
Management:
* Orthodontic space creation
* Surgical exposure + orthodontic traction
* Extraction if the tooth cannot be saved
