PCAKK Courtesy Visit to YB DSP Dr. Joachim Gunsalam

Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) paid a courtesy visit to YB DSP Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, Deputy Chief Minister I and Minister of Works and Utilities.

The delegation was led by PCAKK Patron, Madam Meng Tan, accompanied by Datuk Margaret Lim, Advisor; Dr. Mathan Mohan Rao, Vice President and Organising Chairman; Ms Ivy Stanislaus, Immediate Past President; Ms Elsie Tan, Deputy Organising Chairman; Datin Mary Yong, Committee Member; and Benzie Richard, Executive Secretary.

During the visit, PCAKK expressed its sincere appreciation to YB DSP Dr. Joachim Gunsalam for his support and encouragement towards PCAKK over the past years.

The delegation also shared updates on PCAKK’s services and programmes, including its free palliative home care services that provide care and support to patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses, including incurable cancers, end-stage organ failure, Parkinson’s disease, post-stroke conditions, and other geriatric-related illnesses.

PCAKK also took the opportunity to introduce its upcoming 27th Annual Charity Dinner & Concert 2026, themed “Feel The Fire, Live The Groove,” which will be held on 19 September 2026 at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). The fundraising event aims to support PCAKK’s ongoing services and programmes.

We were honoured to learn from Dr. Roger O’Gorman, Emergency Physician and Medical Ethicist from Queensland, Australia, who delivered an inspiring presentation on:

🩺 "Foundations of Ethics at End of Life (EoL)"

The session provided valuable insights into the ethical principles that guide compassionate, patient-centred end-of-life care, helping healthcare professionals strengthen their knowledge and enhance the quality of care for patients and families. 💙

Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) paid a courtesy visit to YB Datuk Roger Chin, Chairman of Invest Sabah Berhad, at the YB Roger Chin Service Centre.

The PCAKK delegation was led by Datuk Margaret Lim, Advisor of PCAKK, and comprised Dr Mathan Mohan Rao, Vice President and Organising Chairman; Ms Elsie Tan, Deputy Organising Chairman; Ms Caroline Paxton, Management Committee Member; and Mr Benzie Richard, Executive Secretary.

During the visit, PCAKK shared an overview of its initiatives, including its Homecare Programme, which provides free palliative care support to patients and their families within the community. Through this programme, PCAKK’s healthcare team conducts home visits, offering guidance and support to caregivers to ensure that patients receive compassionate care while maintaining their comfort and dignity in their own homes. These services are provided entirely free of charge to patients who require them.

PCAKK also shared updates on its upcoming 27th Annual Charity Dinner & Concert 2026, which will be held on 19 September 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). Themed “Feel The Fire, Live The Groove”, the event will feature The Australian Bruno Mars Tribute Show as one of the main highlights of the evening.

The Charity Dinner & Concert is one of PCAKK’s major fundraising events to support the sustainability and expansion of its palliative care services. Funds raised will contribute towards strengthening PCAKK’s Homecare Programme and supporting its vision of establishing a dedicated premises to enhance its facilities, improve service delivery, and continue providing quality palliative care support to the community in Sabah.

MAHSA COLLEGE SABAH VISIT PCAKK TO EXPLORE POTENTIAL COLLABORATION

Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) welcomed representatives from MAHSA College Sabah for a meeting to discuss potential areas of collaboration between both organisations.

Representing MAHSA College Sabah were Mr. Y. M. Raja Ahmad Affendi bin Raja Omar, Deputy Principal, representing Mr. Andy Agustine, CEO/Principal; Mdm. Maria Virginia Semana, Program Coordinator cm Lecturer from the Nursing Department; and Mr. Ganesh Pandian, Program Coordinator cm Lecturer from the Physiotherapy Department.

The PCAKK delegation was led by Dr. Mathan Mohan Rao, Vice President, together with Datuk Margaret Lim, Advisor, Ms. Agnes Thien, Honorary Secretary, Ms. Dayang Bungsu, Senior Nurse Coordinator, and Ms. Misah Paidi, Nurse Manager.

During the meeting, PCAKK shared an overview of its services and programmes, highlighting its commitment to providing free palliative care support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families throughout Kota Kinabalu and the surrounding districts. MAHSA College Sabah also shared an overview of the college, including its development, programmes, and ongoing efforts in healthcare education. The discussion also provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange ideas on possible collaborations in education, clinical exposure, community outreach, volunteerism, and student engagement.

Both organisations expressed their interest in exploring future collaborative opportunities that would benefit students, healthcare professionals, patients, and the wider community. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties looking forward to strengthening ties and fostering meaningful partnerships in support of healthcare education and palliative care services in Sabah.

PCAKK Courtesy Visit to Permai Polyclinic Group

Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) paid a courtesy visit to Permai Polyclinic Group (PPG) as a gesture of appreciation for their continuous support towards PCAKK over the past years.

The visit was led by Dato' Dr Jaswant Singh, President of PCAKK together with Dr Mathan Mohan Rao, Organising Chairman and Vice President of PCAKK, Ms Elsie Tan, Deputy Organising Chairman, Benzie Richard, Executive Secretary, and Veronica Ongot, Administrative Executive.

During the visit, PCAKK shared updates on the Association’s latest developments, ongoing initiatives, and upcoming programmes. PCAKK also took the opportunity to express its sincere appreciation to Permai Polyclinic Group for their encouragement, continuous support, and contribution towards PCAKK’s mission in providing palliative care services to the community.

PCAKK also highlighted its upcoming Annual Charity Dinner & Concert 2026, which will feature the Australian Bruno Mars Tribute Act and will be held on 19 September 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). The fundraising event aims to support the sustainability of PCAKK’s community-based palliative care services and future patient care programmes throughout Sabah, ensuring continued support for patients and their families in need.
