💚 Green mucus doesn’t always mean bacteria or antibiotics are needed
As parents, it can be worrying when your child’s mucus changes colour — but did you know that green mucus is very common in viral colds?
👉 Mucus colour alone cannot tell us whether it’s a viral or bacterial infection.
What truly matters is the overall clinical picture, including:
❗ Duration of symptoms
❗ Severity of illness
❗ Physical examination findings
❗ Response and progress over time
❗ Blood tests (if indicated by the doctor)
💡 Antibiotics are not decided based on mucus colour alone. In many cases, viral infections improve on their own with supportive care.
🌟 Sometimes, using antibiotics unnecessarily may do more harm than good.
If you’re ever unsure, it’s always best to have your child assessed by a doctor for proper evaluation and guidance.
