This changed the way I hug my kids!
The "Disney Hug Rule" - a heartwarmimg viral concept stating that theme park characters are trained never to break a hug with a child until rhe child lets go first. A quick search will reveal that it's not an enforced mandate but park staff are trained to assess the guests' cues and respond patiently and warmly.
But the idea does have its merits, doesn't it? And guess what? There is neuroscientific findings on how sustained or long physical touch does switch on the chill-pill hormones and pathways in the brain and help the body become calm and regulated.
I already know hugging is a type of Love Language - Physical Touch, and of course, I would hug my children generously in good or bad moods, but how it completely changed my approach is that I dont break off the hug first - I let my child decide when he/she has finished fuelling up, and let me tell you, it is often longer than 20 seconds. 🤭
Sometimes, they just need an F1 Formula pitstop hug. Other times, they need a longer refuel. Most times, we wouldnt know until we let their bodies tell us so.
How would you hug your kids today? 🥰🫶🏻
