Making sauerkraut juice at home has become a monthly ritual for me. This is my 10th batch after I started consuming sauerkraut juice about 9 months ago. This whole batch only uses 3 large cabbage heads with Celtic sea salt and water at a total cost of only MYR20.00 or US$5.00. It is extremely cheap to cater to a family of 6 people and the benefits are amazing.
As I have shared earlier, I struggled with acid reflux and stomach discomfort for many years and so is some of my family members. After spending so much of money on doctor's consultation, medicines and probiotics, I got really frustrated and did a lot of research which led me to the gut connection. Consuming fermented food is one of the best thing for gut health and fermented sauerkraut turns out to be a popular choice. There are tons of resources in the internet on how to make sauerkraut but after trying it, I found that it's not something that I could eat on a regular basis.
Then I discovered sauerkraut juice and thought that this is something I could drink conveniently on a regular basis and surprisingly, all my family members did not hesitate to jump on the bandwagon even though some were fussy eaters.
But there weren't much resources in the internet on important information and how to make it properly. So I went through a lot of trial and errors and finally after 8 months of consumption with significant improvements, I decided to share it with all of you via a video published in my YouTube channel.
My acid reflux and stomach discomfort has improved by 95% as I still do experience it once in awhile if I am not careful and indulged in food that I am intolerant to. My frequent bowel movements have decreased and stools have become firmer. The good thing is that my other family members have seen improvements, too.
Sauerkraut is packed with live probiotics, lactic acid and essential nutrients such as Vitamin C, Iron and Potassium. It promotes digestion as the natural lactic acid inhibits growth of bad bacteria and encourage the growth of good bacteria. Besides aiding digestive health, it also supports strong immune system and help manage inflammation. Sauerkraut is also acid resistant, allowing the probiotics to survive the high acidity of the stomach to reach the intestines and thrive in this acidic, fermented environment.
