This case report describes an adult patient with long-standing childhood strabismus who developed ocular torticollis, facial asymmetry, and secondary spinal changes as a result of prolonged visual compensation. The visual etiology remained unrecognized until adulthood, after many years of musculoskeletal-focused management. Following diagnosis, intensive neuro-vision therapy led to improved ocular alignment, the development of depth perception, and a marked reduction in abnormal head posture. These outcomes demonstrate that visual rehabilitation can be effective even later in life. This case highlights the critical importance of early ophthalmic evaluation and a multidisciplinary management approach involving both an ophthalmologist and a behavioral optometrist. Neuro-vision specialist Dr. Stanley, founder of our center, was honored to collaborate with ophthalmologists Dr. Goh and Dr. Chiew. This clinical poster was presented at the 2026 Asia Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.

Recently, Dr. Stanley from Neuro Vision Specialist was once again invited to Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan to engage with 50 healthcare professionals on a critical yet often overlooked subject: 📍 Neuro-Optometric Vision Rehabilitation for TBI/ABI: From Assessment to Intervention

💡 A Truth That Demands Reflection: For survivors of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) or ABI (Acquired Brain Injury), their eyesight may remain a perfect 20/20, but their Vision—how the brain interprets what it sees—is often shattered.

When the brain is injured, the coordination between the eyes can break down, leading to:
❌ Unexplained dizziness, even while sitting still.
❌ Words that "jump" or "dance" on a page, making reading impossible.
❌ Loss of depth perception, making stairs a dangerous challenge.
❌ "Brain fog" or sensory overload in crowded places like supermarkets.

This isn't just an eye problem; it’s a "communication breakdown" between the brain and the visual system. When these invisible visual deficits go undetected, patients are often misunderstood as being "emotionally unstable" or "unmotivated in rehab," causing them to miss their window for a true recovery.

During this session, Dr. Stanley shared deep insights with colleagues in Taiwan on how Neuro-Optometric Vision Rehabilitation leverages neuroplasticity to rebuild those fractured visual connections.

As 2025 quietly draws to a close,
for many, it feels like the season of endings.
But for the optometrists and ophthalmologists who journeyed from around the world—some even enduring multiple flight connections just to be here in pursuit of a new “Vision Concept”—this marks not an ending, but the beginning of an entirely new chapter.

In the classroom, Dr. Stanley remained true to his hallmark style: half lecture, half hands-on practice. Each session was not merely the transfer of knowledge, but a spark of ideas colliding. Dr. Stanley would often pose thought-provoking questions that left students reflecting deeply and discovering new pathways of vision.

This time, the focus was on Developmental and Behavioral Optometry.
It goes far beyond simple refraction or prescribing lenses. Instead, it is a deeper philosophy—understanding patients’ lives through their visual behaviors. From reading and learning, to movement and everyday habits, it reveals the intricate relationship between visual function and the brain. Behavioral Optometry reminds us: clarity of sight is only the beginning. It is the integration of vision and the brain that truly shapes one’s ability to learn, focus, and live a fulfilling life.

Here, participants not only gained the skills to test and correct, but more importantly, they learned how to view the person behind the eyes with a new perspective.

May each of them carry this knowledge back to their own countries and communities, bringing hope and clarity to more patients struggling with neuro-visual challenges—helping them reclaim balance, clarity, and confidence in life.

This is not the end of a course.

I am delighted to share that vision is not only about seeing clearly, but also about how well our eyes and brain work together to support visual function. This includes critical abilities such as depth perception (judging distances accurately) and figure–ground processing (distinguishing objects from their background).

These visual skills are especially important for occupational safety and health, particularly for those working in environments such as construction sites, warehouses, and off-site locations. Good visual function helps workers move safely through their surroundings, avoid hazards, and perform tasks with greater accuracy and confidence.

By understanding vision in this broader sense, we can better appreciate its essential role in protecting workers and supporting their overall wellbeing in the workplace.
