👁️ HAZE CAN AFFECT YOUR EYES TOO

When the air gets hazy, your eyes may feel the difference.

4 common eye symptoms

1. 👁️ Red & irritated eyes
Fine particles in hazy air can irritate the surface of your eyes.

2. 💧 Watery eyes
Your eyes may produce more tears as a response to irritation.

3. 😣 Itchy or burning sensation
You may experience discomfort, itchiness or a stinging feeling.

4. 👀 Dry & uncomfortable eyes
Haze and airborne pollutants may contribute to eye-surface discomfort.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health identifies eye irritation, watering eyes and conjunctivitis (eye inflammation) as possible short-term effects of haze exposure.

What can you do?

🌫️ During hazy days:

Reduce prolonged outdoor activities.
Avoid rubbing your eyes.
Keep windows closed when outdoor air quality is poor.
Wash your face and hands after spending time outdoors.
Keep indoor air as clean as possible.
If your eyes become persistently red, painful or uncomfortable, seek medical advice.

MOH also advises reducing outdoor physical activity and staying indoors as far as possible when haze is affecting air quality.

Take care of your eyes when the air quality drops. 👁️

Does having cataract mean you need surgery immediately? 👁️

Not always.

Cataract can develop gradually, and the timing of treatment depends on your vision, eye condition and how much it affects your daily activities.

In some cases, early cataract may simply be monitored during regular eye examinations. When cataract begins to interfere with activities such as reading, driving or recognising faces, your ophthalmologist may discuss whether cataract surgery is appropriate for you.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Your ophthalmologist will assess your eyes and discuss the treatment options based on your individual needs.
