Sub-Brow Lift vs Upper Blepharoplasty — What’s the Difference?
Both procedures can improve heavy or hooded upper eyelids, but they address the problem in different ways.
Upper Blepharoplasty
The incision is made on the upper eyelid itself. Excess eyelid skin is removed directly, and when necessary, excess fat or muscle laxity can also be addressed. It is generally more suitable when excess skin extends across the inner, central and outer parts of the upper eyelid.
Sub-Brow Lift
The incision is made just below the eyebrow. Excess skin beneath the brow is removed, usually focusing more on the outer part of the upper eyelid. This can be particularly useful for lateral hooding, while preserving the natural eyelid crease.
However, a sub-brow lift may not be suitable when there is significant excess skin in the inner or central eyelid, prominent eyelid fat, or significant eyebrow drooping.
The photo shows a sub-brow lift performed together with lower blepharoplasty. The heavy, hooded skin beneath the eyebrows was removed, and the remaining skin was gently lifted to open up the upper eyelid area. At 1 month after surgery, the previously hidden double-eyelid crease is more visible, while the overall appearance remains natural and balanced. Lower blepharoplasty was performed at the same time to address the under-eye bags and dark circles, creating a more refreshed appearance around the eyes.
Individual results vary, and proper assessment is important before deciding on the most appropriate procedure.
