Adaptive Exercise for Seniors Facilitators

💚 Beyond Pharmacists, We Now Have a New Role
We are pleased to share that our pharmacist Patrick Teng and his wife Belle have successfully completed the 16-hour Adaptive Exercise for Seniors – Facilitator Training Course.
They are now:
Adaptive Exercise for Seniors Facilitators
In addition to Patrick’s role as a pharmacist, they have taken on a new responsibility—learning how to guide older adults through exercises that are scientific, safe and appropriate for their individual abilities.
The course was jointly organised by the Center for Physical Education Teaching, Tzu Chi University, Taiwan, and the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia.
The training covered exercise approaches that may help older adults support:
💪 Muscle strength and physical function
⚖️ Balance and reduced fall risk
🚶 Mobility and daily independence
🌱 Prevention of frailty and sarcopenia
🧠 Maintenance of cognitive function
💧 Exercise support for urinary incontinence
Many of these exercises do not require complicated or expensive equipment.
Sometimes, all that is needed is a chair and a safe space at home. More importantly, exercise should be adapted to each senior’s health condition, physical ability and individual needs.
We hope to use what we have learned to help more seniors find exercises that are safe, suitable and practical for them.
Exercise is also becoming an increasingly important part of Lifestyle Medicine.
We are familiar with a doctor providing a medicine prescription. Today, suitable individuals may also receive an exercise prescription, which recommends an appropriate type, intensity, duration and frequency of exercise based on their health and functional ability.
As a community pharmacy, we hope to offer more than medicines and supplements. We also want to support healthy ageing through exercise, nutrition and healthier lifestyle choices.
Over the coming weeks, we will gradually share some of the practical knowledge learned during the course, including simple chair-based exercises that seniors can perform safely at home.
A new role also brings a new responsibility.
We hope to help more seniors begin exercising safely, maintain their mobility and continue living as independently as possible. 💚
