Sarcopenia is a syndrome characterized by the gradual decline in muscle mass, muscle strength & physical function with aging. It is not simply “loss of muscle,” but more importantly a reduction in strength & overall mobility.

Main causes include:
🔖Age-related physiological changes
🔖Inadequate protein intake
🔖Lack of physical activity
🔖Chronic diseases
🔖Hormonal and metabolic changes

Sarcopenia is a common condition associated with aging & early detection & intervention are very important.
Exercise & proper nutrition are the core treatments. Acupuncture combined with exercise training may also help improve muscle strength & balance to some extent.
