Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh has successfully performed 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗸'𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗧𝗔𝗩𝗜) in collaboration with the Ipoh Perak Cardiovascular Society (ICVS), marking a significant milestone in advancing cardiovascular care in Perak.

Patients in Perak and neighbouring states can now benefit from advanced structural heart care closer to home, without the need to travel outside the region.

TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. It provides an effective treatment option for patients who may not be suitable candidates for conventional open-heart surgery, while offering the benefits of smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and an earlier return to daily activities.

The landmark procedure was led by Consultant Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist Dr Leong Weng San, together with Consultant Anaesthesiologist Dr Cheah Pike Kuan, and supported by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.

This achievement reflects Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh's commitment to bringing internationally recognised medical technologies closer to the communities it serves, while continuously elevating the standard of cardiovascular care in Perak.

She has also played an active leadership role within the healthcare industry through her contributions to the Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM) and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), working closely with regulators and industry stakeholders to advance healthcare quality, accreditation, and public-private collaboration. Her extensive expertise in hospital operations, clinical governance, and leadership development will be instrumental in advancing our flagship Sunway Medical Centre's continued growth and reinforcing its position as one of the region's leading healthcare institutions.

This cancer is one of the more treatable cancers when caught in time; and in Malaysia, it is more common than many realise, particularly among women.

It is thyroid cancer.

According to the Malaysia National Cancer Registry Report 2017–2021, thyroid cancer is the eighth most common cancer among women in Malaysia, with women being affected more frequently than men.
