The decision highlights the importance of protection of fundamental rights for abandoned children, particularly in cases involving statelessness and citizenship issues.

The Court of Appeal overturned the High Court's decision and granted the declarations sought by the Appellants, that their daughter is a citizen of Malaysia by operation of law.

Our Senior Associate, Carolyn Ng, recently attended the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC), organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland, alongside clients.

The ILO—the only tripartite United Nations agency comprising governments, employers and workers—plays a key role in setting international labour standards and promoting decent work worldwide.

During the conference, Carolyn participated in discussions in the Standard-Setting Committee on Decent Work in the Platform Economy as well as the Recurrent Discussion Committee on Social Dialogue and Tripartism, exploring key developments shaping the future of work and employment.

We are pleased to share that our Senior Associate and Head of the Medical & Personal Injury Department, Jeremy Balang, was invited to speak at the SEA–PAN Oceania Congress & Conference 2026 (SPOCC 2026), themed "New Horizons in Health Law and Ethics", organised by the Indonesia Center for Health Laws and Medical Ethic Advocacies (ICHLAS), held from 24–26 June 2026 in Denpasar, Bali.

Jeremy delivered a keynote speech on Day 1 titled "Rising Tides: Trends and Trajectories in Medico-Legal Litigation" and co-facilitated a short course on Day 3, "Pre-emptive Legal Conflict Between Hospital, Doctor, and Patient", alongside Professor Albert Lee.

International engagements such as SPOCC 2026 provide valuable opportunities to exchange perspectives, strengthen regional collaboration, and contribute to the ongoing development of medical law and healthcare governance. We are proud to be part of these important conversations that extend beyond borders.

Our Senior Associates, Dev Sundram and Jason Lim Jie Sheng, were recently invited to serve as judges at the Taylor’s Intervarsity Mooting Competition organised by the Taylor’s Mooting Society.

The moot problem centred on a medical negligence appeal, providing participants with the opportunity to engage with complex issues of healthcare law, appellate advocacy, and legal reasoning. The competition brought together undergraduate law students from universities across Malaysia and showcased a high standard of advocacy, with participants demonstrating impressive analytical skills, thorough preparation, and effective courtroom advocacy.

We would like to thank the Taylor’s Mooting Society for the invitation and commend all participants for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism throughout the competition. Initiatives such as these play an important role in nurturing the next generation of advocates and legal professionals.
