Every child develops differently. When you notice concerns about your child’s development, behaviour, communication, learning, or social skills, a proper assessment can help you understand what your child is experiencing and what support they may need.

At Kidz Steps Centre, assessment helps us look at your child’s strengths and areas of difficulty, including:

Our team will discuss the assessment findings with parents and provide recommendations for the next steps — whether that involves intervention, counselling, further specialist assessment, school support, or simply monitoring your child’s development.

🕵️ Learning in Progress — Social Detectives!

Every week, our Social Skills Training helps children with special needs learn how to socialise, communicate and behave appropriately in a group setting.

Today, we talked about “Hidden Rules” — the rules that are not written or directly told to us. Children learn to use their detective skills 🔍 to observe, think and make a “smart guess” about what is expected in different social situations.

✨ 3 Days of Learning, Playing & Growing ✨

Three fun and meaningful days learning about Play Therapy for Children and Families. 🧸

As counsellors, our learning never stops. There is always something new to discover, practise, reflect on and bring into our work.

These 3 days gave me the opportunity to gain new knowledge, experience play therapy through hands-on activities, and look at how play can help us better understand and connect with children and families.

I’m grateful for every opportunity to continue growing as a therapist— because when we grow, we can better support the children and families we work with. 🌱

🇲🇾✨ A Week Full of Learning, Fun & Merdeka Spirit! ✨🇲🇾

What an amazing week it has been at Kidz Steps! ❤️

This week, we introduced the children to the meaning of Malaysia’s National Day through a variety of fun, hands-on activities. Instead of simply learning about Merdeka through words, we wanted the children to experience it through play, creativity, movement, and interaction.

From learning about our national symbols and colours to creating their own Merdeka-themed crafts, every activity gave the children an opportunity to learn something new while having fun with their friends.

We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved. Through these activities, they not only learned about Merdeka but also practised important skills such as following instructions, taking turns, paying attention, expressing themselves, working together, and building confidence.

Most importantly, we hope these little experiences help our children understand and appreciate the special meaning behind celebrating Malaysia’s National Day. ❤️

Learning Feelings Is the First Step to Emotional Regulation ❤️

Before children can learn to manage their emotions, they first need to understand and recognise them.

In this activity, the child searches for different feelings cards and learns to identify and name emotions. By building their emotional vocabulary, children begin to notice what they are feeling and understand that every feeling has a name.

Recognise → Name → Understand → Regulate

Learning about feelings is the first step toward helping children manage their emotions in a healthy way.
