An 86-year-old Indian lady presented with a complaint of gradual, painless blurring of vision in her left eye (LE/OS) over several months. The visual decline had progressively worsened and was affecting her ability to perform daily activities such as reading and recognizing faces. There were no associated symptoms such as pain, redness, flashes, or floaters.
Refraction was done at our centre today, but reported no improvement with updated refreaction. Her best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the left eye was 6/60-1, with no improvement on pinhole, suggesting a non-refractive cause of vision loss. The right eye (OD) had relatively better and stable vision.
Finally, we referred to ophthalmologist for confirmation of any suspected macular degeneration or atrophy in the left eye, and to rule out any coexisting neovascular component or other treatable macular pathology.
