I get this question in clinic almost every day.

“Doktor, anak saya perlu ambil apa-apa supplement ke?”🤔

And yes, this question comes up a lot for breastfed babies too. 😄

👉Most parents are already aware about vitamin D supplementation. But what about multivitamins? Do all breastfed babies really need them?🤔

🔆This is something I feel strongly about because I don’t want parents to think that their breast milk isn’t good enough for their baby. And because you hear somewhere that all breastfed babies need to take multivitamins, it doesn’t mean that u need to change to formula milk 🥲

⭐️The truth is, breast milk is the most complete source of nutrition for healthy, term babies during the first 6 months of life.

That said, SOME babies still DO need additional nutrients—but NOT EVERY baby needs every supplement.

This is called targeted supplementation—giving the right supplement to the right baby, at the right time, based on their individual needs.

👉SHARE this to a breastfeeding mum who is looking for supplements for her baby.

I turn 44 today. 🎂

I know many people in their 30s dread entering the so-called “4 series” age. And yes, I was once one of them too.

But the truth is, I don’t think my mind and outlook on life have ever been this contented.

This is the age when I can make better sense of why things happen around me—in hardship and in ease.

To recognise that every phase of life carries its own wisdom, and that Allah’s plans are always better than my own.

An age to rediscover the purpose of life rather than chase things that may not truly benefit me.

An age where I can shift my focus to my career without worrying about getting pregnant anymore. 🤭

An age where I sometimes relate more to my patients’ grandparents than their parents. 😅

An age where I strive to be the one inspiring and guiding the younger generation, rather than constantly searching for inspiration myself.

An age where motherhood takes on a different form—raising adolescents instead of little children.

An age where I realise I am slowly becoming my own parents. 😄

An age where I am part of the sandwich generation—caring for both my parents and my children.

An age where I am reminded that our time in this world is short, and our health is never guaranteed.
To do what I need to do NOW, before its too late.

An age where I prioritise my health by exercising more than I ever have before.

—To more healthy years ahead, time with my loved ones, and moments filled with barakah. 💐

Happy Birthday to me. Alhamdullillah for another year.❤️

“Why does my baby suddenly refuse the breast after taking a bottle?”

“Just one bottle won’t hurt, right?”

Many parents are surprised when baby prefers the bottle. It’s not because babies are being “fussy” or “stubborn”—breastfeeding and bottle feeding are actually DIFFERENT feeding experiences.

When breastfeeding is still being established, especially in the first month, some babies may develop:
• Flow preference
• Bottle preference
• Breast refusal

This doesn’t happen to every baby, but understanding why it can happen helps parents make informed feeding decisions and protect their breastfeeding goals.

If supplementation is needed in the early weeks, alternative feeding methods such as cup, spoon, or syringe feeding may be considered.

As a Paediatrician and Lactation Consultant, this is a myth I hear quite often.

I've had parents telling me:

"Baby sekarang tak nak latch sebab masa dalam NICU dulu nurse bagi syringe feeding." 😩

But current evidence does not support this.❌

✅ Syringe feeding is commonly used as a SHORT-TERM tool to give small amounts of colostrum or breastmilk when:
☀️ Baby is learning to breastfeed and having latching issues (eg:tongue tie)
☀️ Milk supply is still increasing and baby needs temporary supplementation
☀️ Mum and baby need to be separated temporarily
☀️ Preterm babies who are still learning to latch

✅ Studies suggest it can support breastfeeding and DOES NOT cause ni**le confusion or flow preference. Unlike bottle feeding, it mimics natural suckling, and allows the baby to control the flow of milk.

👉If your baby is struggling to latch, syringe feeding is unlikely to be the reason. Latching difficulties are usually multifactorial and deserve a proper assessment by a Lactation Consultant or Counsellor.

💫 Remember- Breastfeeding is a skill that both mum and baby learn together, and it can take time. ❤️

You see normal.
I see potential emergencies.

As a paediatrician, these are the small, everyday moments that quietly make my heart race.

Not to scare you—
but to remind you how quickly things can change, especially with babies and young children.

A few simple changes can make a big difference:

✅ The back seat is always safest. Use a car seat appropriate for your child’s age.
✅ Never leave babies unattended on your bed—even if they’re asleep. Falls happen in seconds.
✅ Keep sleep spaces bare. Babies do NOT need pillows—it increases the risk of SIDS.

❌ Avoid propped bottle feeding. It’s a choking hazard—always hold your baby semi-upright and supervise feeds.
❌ Be careful of small objects such as coins, beads, tiny toys like Lego lying on floor or within baby’s reach-also a choking hazard

🫶 Save this as a gentle reminder & share it with someone who needs it.

As a Paediatrician, I see autistic children almost every day.

They don’t just come to me for diagnosis—
they come in for the same things all children do…fever, cough, infections.

And over time, I realised something important:
I needed to understand Autism better—not just medically, but HUMANLY.

A friend recommended a book that truly shifted my perspective.

Not by teaching me more techniques…
but by changing how I SEE these children.

Not as something to correct—
but as someone to UNDERSTAND.

This Autism Awareness Month, here are 5 reminders I believe more people need to hear—
not just parents, but teachers, caregivers, and society as a whole.

Because sometimes, the biggest change doesn’t come from the child—it comes from US.

⭐ SAVE this for when you need a reminder
⭐ SHARE this with someone who needs to understand Autism better
