MAYOR AMUTHENU EMPOWERS ONGWEDIVA WOMEN
ONGWEDIVA | In a continued effort to empower women, promote awareness and strengthen their participation in society, the Mayor of Ongwediva, Her Worship Councillor Naemi Amuthenu, is leading a week-long capacity-building workshop for women in Ongwediva.
The workshop, which commenced today, Monday, 17 August 2026, and will run until Friday, 21 August 2026, focuses on critical issues affecting women and communities, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Women’s Rights, Mental Health and Gender-Related Laws.
The initiative provides a platform for women to gain knowledge, share experiences and engage in meaningful discussions aimed at strengthening their confidence, understanding of their rights and ability to make informed decisions.
Officially opening the workshop, Cllr Amuthenu encouraged women to recognise their potential and confidently take up leadership roles, responsibilities and opportunities across all sectors of society.
She urged women not to be limited by traditional gender roles, but to pursue opportunities and positions that were historically dominated by men.
The Mayor further emphasised the importance of women supporting and empowering one another, noting that meaningful progress can only be achieved when women are equipped with knowledge, confidence and the courage to participate actively in decision-making processes.
The capacity-building programme forms part of ongoing efforts to create an informed, empowered and resilient community in Ongwediva, where women are encouraged to take their rightful place in leadership, development and social transformation.
