Does radiotherapy hurt?

For external radiotherapy, the treatment itself does not hurt. The machine does not touch you, and you do not feel the radiation while it is being delivered.
​
Side effects can develop later and may depend on the area being treated, your treatment plan and your body.
​
Your care team will guide you on what to expect, what may be expected for your treatment plan, and when you should call.

Cancer care becomes less frightening when people know what to expect.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲.

Ask a man how he is and you probably already know the first answer.

"Fine."
"Good."
"Can't complain."

Most times, it's a reflex, not the whole truth.

Sometimes the silence means he doesn't know how to start.
Sometimes he's hoping it will pass.
Sometimes he simply isn't ready to say it out loud.

Our dedicated Social Work service is here to support NOC patients through those challenges, because cancer care isn't only about treatment.
