ABAKALIKI SOUTH 2027: A CALL FOR EQUITY, JUSTICE AND FAIR REPRESENTATION

My dear people of Abakaliki South State Constituency,
I greet you all.
Today, I speak not merely as a supporter of Hon. Nnanna Ogoabuchi Egede, popularly known as Famous Man, but as someone who believes that every community deserves a fair opportunity to participate in the political leadership of our constituency.
As we approach the 2027 general election, we must ask ourselves some important questions: Where are we coming from? Where are we today? And what kind of political future do we want to build for the next generation?
These are questions that demand honest answers.
THE QUESTION OF EQUITY AND FAIR REPRESENTATION
Since the creation of Ebonyi State in 1996, there have been recurring concerns among the people of Edda Community about their access to elective political positions. Many people from the Community believe that, despite their contributions to the development and political life of Abakaliki South, they have not enjoyed the same opportunities for representation as some other areas.
We must, therefore, ask a simple but important question: Why should any part of Abakaliki South feel that its political aspirations are continually being overlooked?
Our brothers and sisters in Amegu and other communities have their own legitimate political interests. Their aspirations deserve respect. But the aspirations of Edda Community deserve equal consideration.
This is not a call for division. It is a call for fairness.
It is not an argument against any community. It is an appeal for a political arrangement in which every community can see itself reflected in the leadership of Abakaliki South.
Democracy becomes stronger when people believe that the political process gives everyone a fair chance.
WHAT ABOUT EddaCommunity?
For years, people from Edda Community have raised concerns about their limited access to elective offices. Although the Community has had the opportunity to produce a Local Government Chairman, many people believe that this has not fully addressed their desire to be represented in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
The position of Local Government Chairman is important, but the people are entitled to discuss whether their political aspirations have been adequately met.
Why should the agitation for fair representation be ignored when it deserves serious discussion?
Why should our leaders fail to address the concerns of a people who are asking for an opportunity to contribute more directly to legislative governance?
Why should the question of equity become controversial when it ought to be an opportunity for dialogue, understanding and unity?
These are questions our political leaders and stakeholders must answer with sincerity.
The demand for fair representation is not a demand for special treatment. It is a demand that every community should have a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
WHY THE 2027 ELECTION MATTERS
The 2027 general election presents an opportunity for the people of Abakaliki South to reflect on the future they want.
We must look beyond personal interests, political friendships, party affiliations and the promises of individual politicians. We must examine the broader question of how our constituency can build a political culture that values fairness, inclusion, accountability and development.
Our youths need opportunities. Our women deserve stronger participation. Our communities need roads, improved educational opportunities, accessible healthcare, economic empowerment and effective representation.
The State House of Assembly is an important institution through which the concerns of the people can be presented, debated and pursued.
We therefore need a representative who understands the concerns of our communities, listens to the people and is prepared to work with stakeholders across the constituency.
THE PLACE OF HON. NNANNA OGOABUCHI EGEDE
This is where the candidacy of Hon. Nnanna Ogoabuchi Egede, popularly known as Famous Man, enters the conversation.
His candidacy provides an opportunity for the people of Abakaliki South to examine the questions of representation, inclusion and the future of our constituency.
Support for any candidate should be grounded in clear expectations. The people should ask every aspirant and candidate what they intend to do about equitable representation, constituency development, youth empowerment, education, infrastructure and accountability.
Hon. Nnanna Ogoabuchi Egede should be challenged to present a clear programme that responds to these concerns and explains how he intends to represent all communities fairly.
Our interest must not end with who occupies the seat. We must also consider what that person will do with the opportunity.
We need a representative who will recognise that the mandate belongs to the people and that public office carries a responsibility to serve them.
LET US PUT UNITY ABOVE DIVISION
My dear people, let nobody misunderstand the message of Ekumenyi Zone.
We are not enemies of Amegu. We are not enemies of any community in Abakaliki South. We are one people whose future depends on mutual respect and cooperation.
But unity must not mean silence in the face of genuine concerns. Peace must not mean abandoning legitimate aspirations. And political loyalty must not prevent us from having honest conversations about fairness.
True unity is built when every community feels respected, every voice receives attention, and every citizen believes that the political process offers a fair opportunity.
Our elders must help us build bridges. Our political leaders must listen carefully. Our youths must engage responsibly. And our people must make informed decisions based on the issues that matter to their future.
A CALL TO THE PEOPLE OF ABAKALIKI SOUTH
As we prepare for 2027, let us put the question of equitable representation firmly on the table.
Let us demand clear commitments from those seeking our mandate. Let us insist on accountability, inclusive leadership and practical development plans.
Let us assess Hon. Nnanna Ogoabuchi Egede alongside the other candidates on the basis of their records, proposals, character and readiness to serve the entire constituency.
And let us ensure that the concerns of Ekumenyi Zone receive the serious attention they deserve in every political discussion concerning Abakaliki South.
Our votes are an important expression of our democratic rights. Every eligible voter should be free to make an informed choice, guided by conscience, credible information and the future they envision for their community.
CONCLUSION
My dear brothers and sisters, history will remember the decisions we make today. The question before us is not simply who will occupy a political office in 2027. It is whether we can build a constituency where fairness, inclusion and development are meaningful realities for all.
Let us continue to demand equity without hatred, justice without bitterness, and progress without division.
Let our leaders hear the concerns of Ekumenyi Zone. Let our communities engage one another with respect. And let every candidate understand that the people deserve representation that is responsive, accountable and committed to the common good.
Abakaliki South deserves a future built on fairness, unity, equal opportunity and development.
May wisdom guide our leaders, may peace remain in our communities, and may the people of Abakaliki South make decisions that serve the interests of present and future generations.
