THE MORNING PAYOFF: GREAT SLEEP = BETTER MORNINGS
Parents, have you noticed that your child is often irritable, tearful, stubborn, or difficult to settle in the morning?
Before blaming the morning routine, take a look at their sleep routine. 😴
Children need quality sleep for their growing bodies and developing brains.
During restorative sleep, the body supports important processes involved in growth, brain development, memory, learning, recovery, and emotional regulation.
When a child regularly gets too little or poor-quality sleep, the result may show up the next morning as:
😠 Irritability
😭 Morning meltdowns
🧠 Poor concentration
😴 Tiredness
💥 Difficulty managing emotions
⚡ Restlessness
🌙 What can parents do?
✅ Keep bedtime and wake-up times consistent.
✅ Reduce screen time before bed.
✅ Create a relaxing bedtime routine.
✅ Make the bedroom comfortable and quiet.
✅ Avoid caffeinated drinks close to bedtime.
✅ Allow enough time in the morning so your child doesn't have to wake up and immediately rush.
A calmer morning often starts with a better night. 🌿
Of course, children will still have difficult mornings sometimes—sleep isn't a magic solution to every behaviour.
But consistently good sleep can make it easier for children to regulate emotions, cope with stress, concentrate, and start the day well.
