Fertility issue is a sensitive topic for women, but an even more fragile one for men. You mean well. But to someone trying to conceive, those words can hurt more than you think. 💔
Here are 5 things that might sound like you are helping but are actually insensitive 👇
1️⃣ "Just relax, and it will happen." When you tell people trying conceive to just relax it sounds caring but it’s actually indirectly saying it’s their fault.
Stress isn't the reason most people struggle to conceive. It makes them feel blamed for something they can't control.
Instead try saying: "I'm here for you. What would help right now?"
2️⃣ "So, when are you two having a baby?" This is the most insensitive because you don't know what's happening behind closed doors.
Instead try saying: "I'm always here if you ever want to talk about anything."
3️⃣ "Maybe you're leaving it too late or you are taking too long." It adds guilt to a person who is already counting every month.
Try: "This sounds hard. I'm proud of how you're handling it."
4️⃣ "Everything happens for a reason." This statement brushes past real pain, especially after a loss.
Try saying: "I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm listening."
5️⃣ "Whose fault is it?" Fertility challenges can come from either partner, and blame helps no one.
Try: "You're a team. Whatever the cause, you'll face it together."
Sometimes the kindest thing is to listen. 🤍
