Why is my prolactin high? This is one of the questions we get. While stress and other factors can affect prolactin levels, alcohol can also contribute.

Dopamine is released by the hypothalamus to stop the pituitary gland from making too much prolactin. Alcohol reduces or blocks dopamine release in the brain.

Without dopamine the pituitary gland overproduces and releases large amounts of prolactin into the bloodstream.

High prolactin will stop or reduce the quality of ovulation which will cause irregular or skipped periods with or without discharge from the ni***es.

If your prolactin levels are high, stopping alcohol in addition to treatment may provide a lasting solution.
