“IT IS YOUR TIME TO EAT… YOU MUST EAT NOW!” 😩💔
One mistake many caregivers make is thinking:
“If they don’t eat, just force them small.”
It seems caring because you’re worried about their health and strength.
You don’t want them to get weak or miss their medication.
But here’s the truth:
Forcing a patient or elderly person to eat can make them feel helpless, frustrated, or even unsafe.
Sometimes they are tired, in pain, nauseous, emotionally stressed, or simply not ready to eat at that moment.
Care is not control. ✅
What should you do instead?
✔️ Speak gently
✔️ Find out why they don’t want to eat
✔️ Offer smaller portions
✔️ Be patient and encouraging instead of forceful
✔️ Create a calm and comfortable environment
Many older adults may not remember everything…
But they will always remember how you made them feel.
👉 Good caregiving is not just about feeding the body — it’s about caring for the person with patience, dignity, and compassion.
