Big day in Benue. 🎓

APIN Benue's Adolescent and Young People (AYP) Hub just held its graduation.

APIN manages the AYP Hub, collaborating closely with the state government and relevant community-based organisations and partners to deliver engaging training programmes, mentorship and health education to empower the AYPs.

The hub is split into two tracks. The Tech Hub trains AYPs aged 10 to 24 in web development, phone repair, photography, and content creation, while the General Hub trains those aged 15 to 24 in baking, beadmaking, makeup artistry, and fashion design.

This cycle produced 147 graduates in total: 41 from the Tech Hub, its first graduating class ever, and 106 from the General Hub. The graduation ceremony was a colorful showcase of the AYPs' skills and everything the cohort had learned and made in the last six months.

We appreciate the Hub Coordinators, trainers, and the APIN Benue Community Case Management team for their efforts to ensure the success of this programme.

What a way to wrap up NISA 2026!

As Day 3 brings the NISA Conference to a close, we are filled with immense pride, and a renewed commitment to shaping the future of public health in Nigeria.

From driving critical conversations around health system strengthening to showcasing our team's cutting-edge implementation science through impactful e-posters, this conference has been nothing short of inspiring.

A special highlight of our closing moments was receiving an award of recognition for APIN’s longstanding partnership with NISA, a testament to our enduring dedication to impactful health programming, proudly accepted by our Coordinating Director of Programs, Dr. Ify Onwuatuelo.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, engaged with our sessions, and shared in this journey. We may be closing out NISA 2026, but the work to build resilient, sustainable health systems continues!

Day Two at NISA 2026, APIN spent the day showing what it means to turn evidence into action.

Dr Abiodun Isah, our IPC Lead, opened the day by moderating the Oral Abstract Presentation sessions, where researchers shared new implementation evidence and took questions from the audience.

Later, APIN hosted a panel of our own. We opened with a short APIN overview and a documentary tracing our journey from responding to the HIV epidemic to building country-led health systems across all six WHO building blocks.

The panel, "Rethinking the Health System as an Implementation Strategy in the Era of Government-to-Government Transition in Nigeria," dug into the health infrastructure Nigeria needs to carry the whole country, beyond any single disease programme.

Dr. Adetolu Ademujimi moderated. Joining him: Dr. Chukwuemeka Ibilibor (APIN's Associate Director, Health Systems Strengthening), Obinna Ogbanufe (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Nigeria Country Office), and Bernadeth Ukanwa, NSHIP Director at the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme (NASCP).

From sharing research to challenging existing approaches and exploring what works in practice, Day Two reinforced an important message: evidence creates possibilities, but implementation turns those possibilities into impact.🙌

APIN Public Health Initiatives is at the 2026 Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) Conference, alongside researchers, policymakers, implementers and public health leaders, exploring how we can move from what we know to what works.

This year’s theme, “From Evidence to Impact: Advancing Implementation Science for Sustainable Development,” speaks to an important part of public health: evidence matters, but its true value is seen when it translates into action.

At APIN, we are constantly learning how evidence can be adapted, implemented, scaled and sustained to strengthen health systems and improve outcomes for the communities we serve.

At NISA 2026, we are connecting, exchanging ideas and sharing experiences on what it really takes to move evidence from research into meaningful, lasting impact.

APIN Public Health Initiatives is live at the 4th IRCE Annual Scientific Symposium, holding today and tomorrow in Abuja, hosted by the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN). 🤝

Researchers, policymakers, health workers, and partners from across Nigeria and beyond are all in one room, talking about sustainable funding, AI and machine learning, and where public health research goes next.

Our team is here to listen, learn, and swap notes with people doing the amazing work of generating the data, insights, and knowledge that strengthen public health delivery, policy, and program design across the country.

Strong health systems start with getting the right people in the room, having real conversations, backed by real data. Wherever that it, you can be sure APIN will be there.

While his citation was being read, the screen was filled with photos of Prof. Prosper Okonkwo as a toddler, a child, a medical student, and then a young doctor just starting out. Decades before this milestone moment, showing us that every great person began somewhere.

Tomorrow, our CEO, Professor Prosper Okonkwo, delivers his Inaugural Lecture at BINGHAM UNIVERSITY. 🎓

In Nigeria's university system, an inaugural lecture only happens once, when a professor is confirmed to full rank. It's part career retrospective, part statement on where the field is headed.

His lecture is themed "Beyond Molecules: From Science to Sustainable Impact in Nigeria's HIV Response." Prof. Okonkwo's experience in clinical practice, epidemiology, public health policy, global health and research, spanning over four decades, goes into this discourse, attempting to answer the question: what does it actually take to move HIV science out of the lab and into people's lives?

And it’s a wrap!!!

Three days of insightful sessions, presentations, poster showcases, panel discussions and meaningful conversations around one of the most important aspects of healthcare, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

As co-sponsors, APIN was proud to contribute to the conversation, with our team sharing insights from our work on strengthening IPC across healthcare facilities.

From oral presentations to poster presentations, contributions and panel sessions, APIN was well represented throughout the conference.

One thing remains clear: infection prevention and control is not a one-off discussion or a strategy to be dismissed, it is a daily practice that requires commitment, monitoring, and continuous improvement to mitigate the spread of infections and keep both health workers and patients safe.

We are proud of our team and grateful to the organizers, presenters and participants who made NCIC 2026 a success.

APIN is hosting a panel session at the Nigeria Conference on Infection Control, moderated by Dr. Temi Omole, Associate Director, Care and Treatment.

The session, “Contextualizing IPC Programming in Nigeria: Bridging Policy, Practice, and Health System Realities,” brings experts together to explore what it takes to turn IPC policies into practices that work in the real world.

Also on the panel is Dr. Abiodun Isah, who is sharing lessons from APIN’s work strengthening IPC across states and healthcare facilities, from building workforce capacity and governance systems to monitoring and improving performance.

As we dive deeper into Day 3, we are beginning to see the importance of bridging the gap between policies and practice.
