π§Όβ¨ World Hand Hygiene Day 2026 | Action Saves Life β¨π§Ό
On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Mother and Child Specialist Hospital Owa-Alero had the distinct honour of hosting the Delta State Ministry of Health, Epidemiology Unit, for the commemoration of World Hand Hygiene Day 2026.
The event, themed "Action Saves Life," brought together healthcare professionals, patients, clients, and nursing mothers for a day of education, practical demonstrations, and renewed commitment to infection prevention and control.
We were pleased to welcome:
π₯ Dr. Mildred Okowa-Igumbor; State Epidemiologist, Delta State Ministry of Health
π₯ Dr. Enyi Idotenyi; Assistant State Epidemiologist and Focal person Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Delta State Ministry of Health.
Programme Highlights:
β
Welcome address by our Chief Medical Director, Dr. Martins Egbase I, who reaffirmed the hospital's dedication to patient safety and infection control standards.
β
An educational drama illustrating the critical importance of hand hygiene in clinical settings.
β
An interactive session anchored by Dr. Bale Emmanuel a Senior Medical Officer at Mother and Child Specialist Hospital Owa-Alero, which engaged participants in best practices in hand hygiene.
β
A professional lecture and practical demonstration by Dr. Enyi, covering the WHO-recommended seven-step hand washing technique and proper use of alcohol-based hand rubs.
β
Hands-on practice for all attendees, including staff, stable patients, clients, and nursing mothers.
Key Message: Hand hygiene remains the single most effective measure in preventing healthcare-associated infections. As Dr. Okowa-Igumbor reminded us, "Action saves life. Knowledge without application yields no result."
We thank the Delta State Ministry of Health, Epidemiology Unit, and all participants for making this event a resounding success.
Together, we are building a culture of safety β one handwash at a time. π§π§΄
