Ajegunle, Lagos | 11th February, 2026.
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon (ACYM) has announced a historic milestone in the journey of the project following a strategic engagement with the Chief Executive Officer of Micura Services Limited, High Chief [Dr.] Michael Orobosa Ubogu, FCIS, FIPM.
The strategic meeting held on the 6th of February, 2026 at the Head Office in Apapa, Lagos State was convened to deliberate on the way forward to strengthen the implementation, institutional sustainability, and long-term impact of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon, with a shared vision of positioning Ajegunle City and its vast youth population for greater opportunities in sports development, talent discovery, and community transformation.
At the meeting, Micura Services Limited formally reaffirmed its endorsement of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon Project and made a landmark commitment to provide long-term financial and strategic investment support over the next five years. This commitment represents the first private sector financial long-term investment support received by the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon since its maiden edition in 2024, marking a defining turning point in the project’s sustainability journey.
Speaking during the engagement, High Chief [Dr.] Michael Orobosa Ubogu noted that Micura Services Limited has, for decades, invested significantly in sports development initiatives within Ajegunle City and beyond. He emphasized that the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon stands out as an innovative, inclusive, and high-impact sports initiative deserving of expanded private sector participation and sustained support.
As part of the renewed commitment, Micura Services Limited announced plans to scale up investment by expanding prize money structures to accommodate additional competitive categories, including:
- Ajegunle Indigent Category, and
- Secondary School (Under-18) Category,
with the objective of driving broader participation, early talent identification, and structured athlete development among Ajegunle youth and the wider community.
A major highlight of the engagement was a special presentation and conferment session during which the Local Organizing Committee honored High Chief [Dr.] Michael Orobosa Ubogu with:
- an Award of Honor as an Icon of Youth and Community Development, and
- formal Conferment as a Lifetime Patron of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon Project,
in recognition of his enduring contributions to youth empowerment, community development, and sports advancement.
Reacting to the outcome of the meeting, the Local Organizing Committee described the engagement as highly successful and productive, noting that the commitment from Micura Services Limited sets a strong precedent for future private sector participation in the project.
According to the LOC, “This first private sector long-term financial investment commitment reinforces our confidence in the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon. Since our maiden edition in 2024, we have remained steadfast in our vision, and this milestone affirms our belief that it can only get better — with deeper impact, wider inclusion, and greater opportunities for Ajegunle youth.”
