🩺❤️ HOW TO CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE CORRECTLY AT HOME

Checking your blood pressure at home can help you monitor your health—but the way you measure it matters.

✅ FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1️⃣ Rest first 🪑
Sit quietly for at least 5 minutes before taking the measurement. Avoid exercise, smoking, and caffeine for about 30 minutes beforehand if possible.

2️⃣ Sit correctly
Keep your back supported, both feet flat on the floor, and your legs uncrossed. Don't talk during the measurement.

3️⃣ Position your arm properly 💪
Rest your arm on a table so the cuff is roughly at heart level.

4️⃣ Use the right cuff size
A cuff that is too small or too large can give an inaccurate reading. Place it directly on your bare upper arm according to the monitor's instructions.

5️⃣ Take two readings
Wait about 1 minute between readings and record both. Taking readings at the same time each day can make your results easier to compare.

6️⃣ Keep a record 📝
Write down the date, time, and readings. This information can help your healthcare professional understand your blood pressure over time.

🚨 WHEN SHOULD YOU SEEK HELP?

If your reading is 180/120 mmHg or higher, wait at least 1 minute and measure again.

If it remains that high, contact a healthcare professional promptly. If it is accompanied by symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, weakness/numbness, vision changes, confusion, or difficulty speaking, seek emergency medical care immediately.

❤️ IMPORTANT: One high reading does not automatically mean you have hypertension. Repeated measurements and professional assessment are important.

🛡️🥗 FOODS THAT CAN SUPPORT A HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM

Your immune system needs a variety of nutrients to function properly. No single food can “boost” your immunity overnight, but a balanced diet can help support normal immune function.

Here are 10 nutritious choices to include regularly:

1️⃣ Citrus fruits 🍊
Oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, and lemons provide vitamin C and other beneficial nutrients.

2️⃣ Vegetables 🥬
Green leafy vegetables, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, and other colourful vegetables provide vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

3️⃣ Eggs 🥚
Eggs provide protein and several important nutrients that support overall health.

4️⃣ Beans and lentils 🫘
They provide protein, fibre, iron, folate, and other nutrients.

5️⃣ Fish 🐟
Fish provides protein and, depending on the type, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.

6️⃣ Nuts and seeds 🌰
Groundnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and other nuts and seeds provide healthy fats, protein, and minerals.

7️⃣ Yogurt and other fermented foods 🥛
Some fermented foods contain beneficial microorganisms that can support gut health.

8️⃣ Whole grains 🌾
Oats, brown rice, whole-grain bread, and other whole grains provide fibre and important nutrients.

9️⃣ Garlic and onions 🧄
These can add flavour and provide plant compounds as part of a varied diet.

🔟 Water 💧
Staying adequately hydrated supports many normal body functions, including circulation and digestion.

❤️ REMEMBER: A healthy immune system depends on more than food. Adequate sleep, regular physical activity, good hygiene, recommended vaccinations, and avoiding smoking are also important.

💊🚨 5 COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHEN TAKING MEDICINES

Taking medicines correctly is important for getting the intended benefit and reducing the risk of side effects.

1️⃣ Stopping medicine too soon
Some people stop taking a medicine as soon as they feel better. This can be unsafe for certain medicines. Always follow the prescribed instructions and ask your healthcare professional before stopping a medicine.

2️⃣ Taking someone else's medicine
A medicine prescribed for another person may not be suitable for you, even if you have similar symptoms. Never share prescription medicines.

3️⃣ Taking the wrong dose
Taking too much can increase the risk of side effects or poisoning, while taking too little may not treat the condition properly. Follow the label or prescription carefully.

4️⃣ Mixing medicines without checking ⚠️
Some medicines, supplements, herbal products, and even certain foods can interact with each other. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about everything you're taking.

5️⃣ Ignoring instructions
Some medicines need to be taken at specific times or with/without food. Ignoring these instructions can affect how well the medicine works.

💡 SAFE MEDICINE HABITS

✅ Read the medicine label carefully.
✅ Use the measuring device supplied with liquid medicines.
✅ Keep medicines away from children.
✅ Store medicines according to their instructions.
✅ Ask a pharmacist or healthcare professional if you're unsure about anything.

❤️ REMEMBER: More medicine does not mean faster recovery.

📌 SAVE & SHARE this post to help someone use medicines safely.

🌡️🚨 WHEN IS A FEVER DANGEROUS?

A fever is usually a sign that the body is responding to an infection or another illness. Most fevers are not dangerous by themselves, but some situations require urgent medical attention.

🚨 SEEK URGENT MEDICAL CARE IF:

1️⃣ A baby under 3 months has a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher 👶
Any fever in this age group should be assessed promptly by a healthcare professional.

2️⃣ The person has difficulty breathing 🫁
Especially if they are struggling to breathe, breathing very fast, or their lips/face look blue or grey.

3️⃣ There is severe drowsiness or difficulty waking 😴
A person who is unusually difficult to wake, confused, or unresponsive needs urgent assessment.

4️⃣ A seizure occurs ⚡
Especially a first seizure or a seizure that lasts longer than 5 minutes.

5️⃣ There are signs of severe dehydration 💧
Such as very little urine, a very dry mouth, no tears when crying, severe weakness, or inability to drink.

6️⃣ There is a severe headache, stiff neck, or unusual rash 🧠
These symptoms together with fever can indicate a serious infection and require urgent medical assessment.

7️⃣ The fever is persistent or getting worse 🌡️
A fever that continues for several days, repeatedly returns, or occurs with worsening symptoms should be evaluated.

8️⃣ The person has a weakened immune system or serious medical condition
They may need medical attention sooner because infections can become serious more quickly.

❤️ IMPORTANT: The temperature number is only one part of the picture. How the person looks, behaves, breathes, drinks, and responds is also very important.

💧 WHAT CAN YOU DO?

✅ Encourage appropriate fluids.
✅ Allow the person to rest.
✅ Dress them comfortably—avoid excessive wrapping.
✅ If appropriate, use fever medicine according to the person's age, weight, and healthcare professional's advice.

❌ Don't use ice baths or alcohol rubs to try to reduce fever.
❌ Don't give aspirin to children unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional.

📌 SAVE & SHARE this information with parents and caregivers.

⚠️ SAFETY DISCLAIMER: This post is for general health education and does not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are worried about a fever—especially in a young baby—or the person has severe symptoms, seek medical care promptly.

🚑🩺 FIRST AID STEPS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW

Knowing basic first aid can help you respond calmly while waiting for professional medical help. Here are 10 important first-aid situations everyone should know:

1️⃣ Someone is unconscious
Check if they respond and check their breathing. If they are not breathing normally, call emergency help and start CPR. Use an AED if available.

2️⃣ Severe bleeding 🩸
Apply firm, continuous pressure to the wound using clean cloth or gauze. If blood soaks through, add more material without removing the first layer. Seek emergency help for severe bleeding.

3️⃣ Burns 🔥
Cool the burn under cool running water for about 20 minutes. Remove jewellery or clothing near the burn if it isn't stuck to the skin. Do not apply ice, butter, toothpaste, or creams to a fresh serious burn.

4️⃣ Choking 😮‍💨
If the person cannot cough, speak, or breathe, give appropriate choking first aid. For an adult or child over 1 year, this generally involves alternating 5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts. For infants, use 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts. Call emergency help if severe choking continues.

5️⃣ Fainting 😵
Help the person lie down safely. Check their breathing and stay with them. If they don't quickly regain consciousness or have concerning symptoms, seek emergency medical help.

6️⃣ Seizure ⚡
Protect the person from injury, move nearby dangerous objects away, and cushion their head. Do not restrain them or put anything in their mouth. Once the seizure ends, place them on their side if they are breathing normally.

7️⃣ Suspected fracture or serious injury 🦴
Keep the injured area still and avoid unnecessary movement. Don't try to straighten a deformed limb. Seek medical attention.

8️⃣ Poisoning ☠️
Don't make the person vomit unless specifically instructed by a poison specialist or healthcare professional. Seek urgent medical advice and keep the substance/container for identification if safe to do so.

9️⃣ Suspected stroke 🧠
Remember B.E. F.A.S.T.—Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time. Call emergency medical help immediately and note when symptoms began.

🔟 Severe allergic reaction 🚨
If someone has symptoms of anaphylaxis, use their prescribed adrenaline (epinephrine) auto-injector immediately if available and call emergency medical help. Don't rely on antihistamines alone.

❤️ REMEMBER: First aid is not a replacement for professional medical treatment. Stay calm, protect the person from further harm, and get emergency help when needed.

🚨 WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY WHEN SOMEONE FAINTS

Fainting is a brief loss of consciousness, usually caused by a temporary reduction in blood flow to the brain. Most episodes are not serious, but some can be caused by a medical emergency.

🆘 WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

1️⃣ Make sure the area is safe
Check for dangers before approaching the person.

2️⃣ Check if they respond
Gently tap their shoulder and speak to them.

3️⃣ Check their breathing 🫁
If they are not breathing normally, call emergency medical help and start CPR if you know how. Use an AED if one is available.

4️⃣ If they're breathing normally, lay them flat
If there is no obvious injury, keep them lying on their back and raise their legs if comfortable.

5️⃣ Loosen tight clothing
This may help them breathe more comfortably.

6️⃣ Stay with them ❤️
Most people regain consciousness quickly. Keep monitoring their breathing and responsiveness.

7️⃣ When they wake up, don't let them stand immediately
Allow them to remain lying down or sit slowly once they feel fully recovered.

❌ DON'T

🚫 Don't slap or shake the person.
🚫 Don't pour water on their face.
🚫 Don't give food, drinks, or medicines while they are unconscious.
🚫 Don't leave them alone.

🚑 SEEK EMERGENCY HELP IF:

⚠️ They don't regain consciousness quickly.
⚠️ They have difficulty breathing.
⚠️ They have chest pain or severe headache.
⚠️ They have a seizure.
⚠️ They are confused or remain unusually weak.
⚠️ They were seriously injured during the fall.
⚠️ They fainted during exercise.
⚠️ They are pregnant or have a serious medical condition.
⚠️ The fainting happens repeatedly or without an obvious reason.

❤️ REMEMBER: Fainting should never automatically be assumed to be harmless. If you're concerned, get medical help.

💪 A — ARMS
Ask them to raise both arms. Is one arm weak or drifting downward?

🗣️ S — SPEECH
Is their speech slurred, confused, or difficult to understand? Can they understand what you're saying?

❤️🚨 HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS YOU SHOULD NEVER IGNORE

A heart attack happens when blood flow to part of the heart muscle becomes blocked. Getting treatment quickly can save heart muscle and potentially save a life.

Watch out for these warning signs:

1️⃣ Chest pain or pressure
A feeling of pressure, squeezing, fullness, heaviness, or discomfort in the centre or left side of the chest. It may last several minutes or come and go.

2️⃣ Pain spreading to other areas
Discomfort may spread to one or both arms, the shoulders, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen.

3️⃣ Shortness of breath 🫁
Breathing difficulty can occur with or without chest discomfort.

4️⃣ Unusual sweating 💦
Sudden cold sweating, especially together with chest discomfort, nausea, or weakness, can be a warning sign.

5️⃣ Nausea or vomiting 🤢
Some people—particularly women—may experience nausea, vomiting, or indigestion-like discomfort.

6️⃣ Dizziness or fainting 😵
Feeling suddenly light-headed, weak, or faint can occur during a heart attack.

7️⃣ Unusual or extreme tiredness 😴
Some people may experience unexplained weakness or unusual fatigue, sometimes before or during a heart attack.

🚑 WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

If you think you or someone else may be having a heart attack:

📞 Call your local emergency medical service immediately.

🪑 Stop activity and sit or rest in a comfortable position.

🚗 Do not drive yourself to the hospital if emergency medical help is available.

💊 Do not delay emergency care to try home remedies or wait for symptoms to disappear.

❤️ EVERY MINUTE MATTERS. A heart attack is a medical emergency.

🚨🩺 ANAPHYLAXIS: WHAT IS IT AND WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IMMEDIATELY? 😭😭😭

Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly developing allergic reaction that can be life-threatening. It can affect breathing, blood pressure, and multiple body systems.

⚠️ WARNING SIGNS

Watch for:

🫁 Difficulty breathing, wheezing, or throat tightness
👄 Swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or throat
🩸 Dizziness, fainting, or collapse
❤️ Very weak or rapid pulse
🤢 Vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhoea
🔴 Hives, itching, or flushing

Important: Anaphylaxis can sometimes occur without skin symptoms.

🚑 WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY

1️⃣ Give adrenaline (epinephrine) immediately if available.
Use the person's prescribed adrenaline auto-injector according to its instructions. Do not delay adrenaline while waiting for other treatments.

2️⃣ Call emergency medical services immediately. 📞
Tell them you suspect anaphylaxis.

3️⃣ Help the person lie down.
Keep them still. If breathing is difficult, they may sit with their legs extended. Do not allow them to stand or walk.

4️⃣ If the person is unconscious but breathing normally, place them in the recovery position.

5️⃣ If they are not breathing normally, begin CPR and use an AED if available.

6️⃣ If symptoms don't improve and another adrenaline auto-injector is available, a second dose may be given according to the device instructions and local emergency guidance, commonly after about 5 minutes.

❌ Do NOT rely on antihistamines alone. They do not replace adrenaline for anaphylaxis.

❤️ REMEMBER: Anaphylaxis is an emergency. Adrenaline first + emergency medical care.

📌 SAVE & SHARE this information. Knowing what to do could save a life.
