UCTH Strengthens Fire & Disaster Management Collaboration

The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) on Wednesday, 16th September 2026, hosted a strategic collaboration meeting with key emergency and safety agencies to strengthen fire safety, emergency preparedness and disaster response.

The collaboration which was initiated by Occupational Safety and Health Unit of UCTH brought together representatives from, University of Calabar, Federal Fire Service, Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Cross River State Emergency and Management Agency and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The Director of Administration, Dr. (Mrs.) Maureen Bassey who represented the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme, formally inaugurated the collaboration on behalf of Management.

Discussions focused on risk assessment, joint inspection, staff safety training, emergency response planning, mock drills and a coordinated Incident Command System.

The initiative reinforces UCTH’s commitment to protecting lives, property and critical healthcare infrastructure.
